I have some very intense opinions of this shite. We almost got into a shootout with some old coonass over this. Nobody owns the water. End of f@cking story. If you have a lease or whatnot, you own the land underneath but not the water.

water subject to the ebb and flow of tide is fair game. Block the tidal influence off if you want private. You can't have it both ways.

This thread is going to be one to watch...

I'm with you guys, but there are those that believe the complete oposite and WILL shoot, especially when it come to protecting "their" ducks.

I have a strong opinion on this. I don't care if you paid the money to dig the canal, if the natural ebb and flow of tide brings in bait and fish that my taxes and fees are used to manage, you have NO RIGHT to keep me from fishing that canal.

Like I said this thread will be fun to watch.

So, since your taxes pay to manage deer, do you have the right to pursue them on someone else's property?

I'm really on the fence here. If you dug the canal, then as far as I'm concerned, it's yours. If it's a natural bayou, not so much.

How would one know if the canal was dug or if it's natural?

If I lived on a secluded canal and I was one of the only people around, I'd want to keep dumbass fishermen away from my house, too

Current La law agrees.

It is entirely legal to gate off a man made canal regardless of tidal conditions.

what about the "natural ebb & flow" of a flooding river? should you be allowed to hunt anywhere that you can get to by boat?

This. It's not about owning water. That's a cop out used by trespassers. If it wasn't navigable in 1812, it's subject to private ownership.

Stay the hell off private property unless you have permission.....frickin trespasers.

Hunt and fish public lands or pay for a lease..................or better yet, buy land.

I don't want their ducks or deer, I want the reds, specs, and flounder in the water. Those aren't their fish.

Just because u lease the land on both sides of a canal that has been public for years doesn't mean u now own the fricking canal. If it doesn't have a gate I'm there and I do carry a gun for assholes that think they can tell me what to do

True, but it's their land.

Good luck with that. BTW, there's really no such thing as "public for years".

I hear what you're saying, and not trying to call you out, but is that any different then then wanting the duck or deer? Those animals migrate back and forth just like the fish do. And even if you are just wanting the fish, if you are chasing them while a man is trying to hunt his blind that he has obviously put a lot of time and money into and flaring ducks......

It's a touchy subject and a lot of emotions are involved, but I have to say that I believe if someone dug a ditch on their own dime on their own property, it's theirs to do with as they please.

it's not THEIR ducks and deer either (I don't want them) but the point is... Gate/fence off your property is you are going to act an arse... Also I believe a gated canal should have some sort of mesh wire across the front of it so that fish cannot move in and out. As far as I'm concerned it should be a
"pond" type of place

good point brought up... If I see a boat where a duck hunter is in the marsh I move on to another area... They only get a certain period of time to hunt and I can fish year round

Oh, you are absolutely correct. They aren't THEIR deer, they are our deer. We just have to wait until they get off THEIR property before we can shoot them, or should everyone put a high fence around their property?

See what I'm saying?
