Would you stay on one?
Good Food
12 guys per room
Satellite TV
250 guys per "flotel"
84 hour work weeks at good pay
An hour from the closest marina
Seems like a prison to me

I do, although we don't have 12 per room or 250. It is about 4 per room and 60 or so.
ETA: I don't work on a flotel as part of the clean up crew, I work on a Spar. I forgot I was on the oil rig disaster forum.

Not all of the quarters are 250 man units.
some are 50 and a few are 250
The modules are required to have 30sq ft per man
However I wouldnt live on those quarter barges.

Your pay is a tad higher as well and from the folks I've seen staying on those things........The word "Prison" comes to mind. With that many people on them things, the chances of you wakin' up butt hurt is probably very high.

I don't know if it was meant to be all of the team are that condition but there was one within sight of Grand Isle, so unless you travel at 2 miles an hour it was a lot closer than an hour away.
Also a lot of guys chose it so they wouldn't have to deal with the commute. Once Grand Isle filled up they we housing people further inland and bringing them down on buses. Just not enough parking for everyone to drive in. Floatel's were optional and not required.

BP wanted to keep workers on the flotels to keep them out of the bar rooms and away from the media.

from the pictures I saw anybody that has worked a significant amount of time offshore has stayed in much worse. there was absolutely nothing wrong with the arrangements that i saw.

My dad is actually running one at the mouth of the river. His barges currently have a task force staying on board with room for many more, but the task force was evacuated today and he is currently waiting to find out if he and his guys will also be evacuated.
