Did the dodgers offer over like 1.5 million for a signing with them? We can put on our purple colored glasses and say Lee needs to come to LSU but if i was 17 or 18 years old and someone offered me over a million to play baseball its a no brainer. Now before you start getting angry at what i just stated take into consideration why i stated it. 1) Most kids go to college to one day to aspire to make over a million dollars in their lifetime right?Done before he is 20 years old. 2)Lots of girls around to play with.Done last i checked most millionaires do well with the ladies.3)If he goes to baseball and doesn't do so well after a few years he can always come back and play football a.k.a (josh booty).Lastly say he signs with LSU and has a subpar season and we jump on him like all our Qb's in recent past. He then quits football and goes to the minors. I agree with some of the posters here that he most love LSU very much or he is just playing the dodgers for more money. To even enroll at LSU is saying something because how many top 30 baseball picks ever stay in college more than 1 to 2 years. Maybe Elway or even locker at Washington. I'm hoping for the best and because garrett left the team for a reason but i'm prepared for this kid to move on real soon

$1.5M???

Going to take a lot more than that at his draft spot and I remember his dad saying $1M is not what it used to be when he posted on this board. His family isn't really hurting either. Sure he could sign if they offer what he is looking for but the Dodgers have never in their history paid anywhere close to what they are asking for and they are in financial trouble this year.

I think the kid wants to play football and baseball still while enjoying the college experience. He has options for his future.

I think his 5 to play 4 starts as soon as he goes to class at LSU or a school that has a football program.

It starts when you are a full-time student and he is only taking one class in the summer so he is part-time.

If he stays at LSU his eligibility clock will start in the Fall.

Dude, he won't even talk for less than 3 mil!

1 million, minus agent fees (5-10%), minus 48% taxes, he'll get around 500K MAX. Buy a house and a car and there goes another 300-400k. SO he's sitting there in the minors with about 150K cash left. Then if it doesn't pan out, his expenses would eat him up in a year and then have NO education to fall back on.

He doesn't want to go for less than 4 million. And someone jsut signed the 28th overall for like 1.5 bonus I think. Doesn't look as though the money is even almost close to his "slot".

I don't see it happening. IMHO He loves football and baseball and he figures he WILL NOT forget how to htorw the baseball in the next 3 years, he will only get better at actually learning how to "pitch" in real game situations and play for a championship caliber squad every year in LSU !

None. He's gone in three years anyway IMHO. But he will be a Tiger, not a Dodger next year.

then, we don't need 2 QBs this year for sure and maybe we don't have to take one if its not the guy we really want.

It's not out of the realm of possibilities that JL would transfer to an FCS school if he wound up third string in the fall. Not hoping for that by any means, but can we really afford to take a chance at this point?

Our luck at the QB position has been nothing but bad for the last two years.

No one knows what the future holds regarding whether Zach will be the starting QB in a couple of years or not, but I will guarantee you this...

If Zach is the returning starter at QB with one season left on a team that has a chance to win the conference or more.. He will come back for his last year.. This 3 year and out stuff is not in his makeup.. The kid has way too much loyalty to do that.. If it was about the money, Zach would be in the Dodgers organization right now..

Lot's of speculation on these boards that is way off the mark..

One other thing that needs to be said.. The coaching staff doesn't have any sort of backroom deal with Zach and his family that guarantees playing time.. I think you are selling your coaching staff short to think they would do that.. I know Zach doesn't expect anything to be given to him.. He knows it will take a lot of hard work to earn the starting job, but he won't shrink from it.. If the staff thinks it's in the team's best interest to redshirt him, then so be it.. Zach really likes and trusts this coaching staff.. They are good men.

Zach is a competitor like no one I have ever known.. He has a single-mindedness to accomplish his goals and expects no favors.. Zach will take tough classes, make good grades and work as hard or harder than anyone on the football team..

As I said.. No one knows the future.. I can't say Zach will be the greatest thing since slice bread or that he will lead the Tigers to a National Championship.. I just know that he has some gifts and he has an unbelievable ability to handle pressure.. More importantly he is a great kid that will work hard and stay out of trouble..

Zach's not going to sign for anything less than 2.85 million at the VERY least. He's got as much leverage possible...1)senior in high school 2)two sport athlete

The Dodgers have NEVER given a player more than 2.3 million for a signing bonus and I don't see them topping that this year.

Wasn't a knock on Zach at all, sorry if it sounded that way.

It's just that history shows us that coming back for a fourth year can be risky. Either for football or baseball.

That's all I meant. Obviously, I wish him the best, whatever his decision is. It's his life.

Solid. Solid comments, and a solid young man who has chosen to be an LSU Tiger if college is his next step. Thanks for the insight.

No worries.. Your post wasn't really that bad, it's just some of the speculation seems to imply things that are far from the truth..

I understand what it's like to be a dedicated fan and that much of the recent speculation is derived from worry warts that just fear the worst.. It's all good.. It's just that in some cases, while fretting over the worse possible outcome.. People/fans may in some cases impugn the integrity of people they don't really know.. It's understandable..

My sister and brother in law (Zach's parents)have a very healthy attitude about it all.. I just can't help myself sometimes...

Everything you said is probably true. Zlee is a great competitor and player. Do you want the most important player in your football program playing baseball half of every year? Do you want him risking arm injury doing one of the most unnatural acts in sports in pitching? You better recruit behind him. Don't end up with a gap like is happening now. Miles is gonna be nervous all baseball season especially since lee will be the ace of the staff. Lee is probably going to have some type of injury either in football or baseball. Law of averages says in the SEC playing 2 sports your gonna miss some time. You just hope it's not serious injury. No knock on baseball but I think football is the engine for this athletics program.
