Just heard a rumor that Schlumberger just laid off about 200 people in the gulf. Anybody know if this is true?

I haven’t heard of layoffs yet, but they are pulling their Frac/Stimulation boats out of the Gulf. Two are going overseas, and they are going to cut up the Deep Stim 3

They are getting two new Frac/Stimulation vessels built, but I believe these are going to Brazil but not positive.

Haven't heard anything, but I've got a few friends that work for them. Making calls now to see if they've heard anything.

More hope and change
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Diamond Offshore Drilling, Inc. (NYSE:DO) today announced that a subsidiary of the Company has entered into a term contract ending June 30, 2011, plus option, with Burullus Gas Company S.A.E. that will immediately mobilize the Ocean Endeavor from the Gulf Of Mexico (GOM) to Egypt.
Diamond Offshore President and CEO, Larry Dickerson, noted, “With new contracting severely restricted in the GOM as a result of the uncertainties surrounding the offshore drilling moratorium, we are actively seeking international opportunities to keep our rigs fully employed. This new contract for the Endeavor will help us preserve backlog, and will allow the previous operator of the rig to satisfy its contractual obligations which extended until June 30, 2011. We greatly regret the loss of U.S. jobs that will result from this rig relocation.”

Not necessarily all in the gulf. We've done some reorganizing and they are "streamlining" things in North America. Just learned about this yesterday as I am still a little guy in the company.
ETA: it's probably more like 120-150 as well.

Friend of mine got laid off from a service company who's only client was Schlumberger.

Dosen't surprise me SLB is always one of the first to layoff.

We (SLB) just did a restructure of all of North America. There were going to be some cuts due to this restructuring. I do not how many were laid off but there were a few. The interesting part is whether or not these employees will have a claim against BP. Some would have lost their job spill or no spill but some jobs were definitely lost because of the MORONtorium.
