I originally entitled this thread "Dropped Balls", but thought better of it.

This is the first year in quite some time that I haven't been worried about our WR's dropping passes. I can remember back to Dwayne Bowe dropping passes thrown right in his hands. Of course Brandon Lafell, Buster Davis, even Early Doucet had his issues early on.

But this year I don't think we'll see as many dropped passes. Reuben Randle made some fabulous catches last year and I can't remember but one pass he dropped and that was in the Georgia game. Incidentally, he caught a pass on the very next play. TT is very reliable. I think he gets a little ahead of himself sometimes, but he's a threat. And of course Shep. He's gonna drop some easy passes because he plays one step ahead, and he's always looking to make a move after he catches the ball, but he'll make some highlight material catches too.

Thankfully, our WR's haven't been the subject of much banter this year for a change.

Seemed like we dropped at least 2 or 3 balls a game last year and almost every one of them killed the momentum or was on 3rd down.

Gonzales is the key this year and I don't expect that to continue this year either.

But when the QB does, the WRs have to do their part.

We need the receivers to make plays when the opportunity is there. Obviously, if we had dropped passes last year (which we did), there was a QB on the other end getting the ball to them. Like one of the previous posters stated, we seemed to have at least 2-3 dropped passes each game, and each one seemed like a momentum or drive killer. Critical dropped passes can mean the difference between a win and a loss.

Kids drop passes—happens to us, happens to other teams with 4- and 5-star receivers. I doubt we're much better or worse than other teams at our level. The one guy you have to look at though is RS—we're counting on him getting the ball in his hands a lot this season, and he's got to be able to hang on to most of the passes thrown his way. We'll see how he fares as a first-time WR in the SEC.

Buster Davis had great hands IMO... Bowe got all the praise, but Buster was Mr. Reliable in 05-06.

I think you're kidding yourself if you think their won't be as many dropped balls. RS is just now learning WR and he has a looooooooooooooooooooooong ways to go. He was dropping balls in the spring game...

TT is still raw and I never really thought TT had great hand strength to begin with.

RR is young.

You will see dropped balls this year, probably as much as last year and all the years before that...it comes with the game. Young/raw guys are going to make mistakes...coaching can only do so much.

I agree with you about RS, but not so much about Tolliver and RR. I think both of those guys will be solid and pretty dependable.

I don't think anyone is asking for these guys to be Larry Fitzgerald, but just a little more dependable. I think they will be.

Not as much as last year or the years before. I think coaching WILL make a big difference. LSU finally has a WR coach in BG that can actually teach/correct technique problems. I say Gonzales makes an immediate impact with the WR's in terms of technique, route running and in-game concentration. (Fewer drops)

The bigger question mark is whether or not we can find a QB that can throw a consistantly accurate and catchable ball to them..........

This thread is about the drops from catchable balls, not incomplete passes.

Also, 2 or 3 passes dropped a game is not the norm in college football. That would be higher than average.

Shep looked like he needed a lot of work in that area in the spring game. If he can improve his catching over the summer, he will be absolutely lights out.

Good point. I also think D.P. has great hands and hopefully many of the tosses will be his way.

Good point. Dumping passes off to DP should also be easy completions that could potentially give JJ confidence and open up our running game.

They all dropped balls they should have caught in the spring game. I think they are just trying too hard to help the QB's, but whatever. Hopefully Gonzo can get them in the right mindset.

That's because the QB will be on his butt when the receivers are open.

You can't coach mentality. Young guys are going to make mistakes.
