we all know that season 8 was the first season in which the show didn't have Jerry performing his stand-up routine. I don't understand why they couldn't have just stuck it out for another 2 seasons with stand-up...your thoughts??

Idk, it doesn't really bother me. What does bother me is the so called trivia that "There's a superman reference in every episode". I know that he has that figurine on his bookshelf and he mentions superman a lot, but I could swear there are some episodes without a reference. Two that instantly come to mind are the one in the parking garage at the mall and the Chinese restaurant, since both of those episodes are in those locations only. Maybe he makes some mention of SM, but I can't think of it off the top of my head.

There are 124 episodes with a reference and 52 without.

Found that online.

I always thought Seinfeld's stand-up was meant to show that he's not extremely funny, or at least not enough to blow up nationwide.

I remember reading a long time ago, the premise of the show wasn't 'nothing.' It was to show how a comedian comes up with his material. So the show would open with a small bit, then the episode would play, all relating to the bit, then he would close with more stand up. The part in between the stand up was supposed to be situations that happen to everyone and that we can all relate that are funny, and in which he writes his material from.

If I had to guess, maybe the show got too far away from that and they just dropped the stand up angle altogether.

Really. He's probably one of the most well known stand up comedians ever.

I'm talking about Seinfeld in the sitcom. There is a lot of references of people not liking his stand up in the show. Plus the show is not about a comedian that can't walk down the street without being recognized. Maybe it's just me, but there was a lot of groaners in Seinfeld's sitcom standup material.

And my name is a veiled Seinfeld reference.
