A bunch of 12-team conferences is ultimately best for college sports...I hope the Pac-10 and Big Ten stop at 12 teams, and the Big 12 adds two new schools or stays at 10.

That being said, I can't see the Big 12 lasting long if they decide to keep it together. The only reason it would stay is because of A&M flirting with the SEC. Texas has shown its hand and the Big 12 members will remember that.

Losing Nebraska severely weakened the Big 12 and the natural perception of the conference will be that it is weak...how will it shed that image?

The BIG 12 will have an image problem going forward - that is certain. Plus, if it's true that the lesser teams like Baylor, Iowa St etc. have to take less of the pie going forward to keep the Big 12 - it further deflates that conferences image while creating an inferior product on the field.

You're right, but it's up to the other schools to call UT, too. Looks like only A&M has the chutzpah to call UT's hand.

The problem is that there are not many schools in the Big 12 with options outside the Big 12. A&M and OU have leverage because the SEC would take them in a heartbeat.

I still think a reconstituted Big-12 will be stronger than the Pac-10; especially in the foreseeable future with USC taking a hit.

The Big-10 will probably come knocking again after its championship game fails to give it the desired boost over the SEC.

The SEC and aTm seems to have saved the CFB landscape as we know it.

That's a bit of a stretch since there is no logical way for opponents to play each other.

I see nothing wrong with 16 team conferences.

Play all the teams on your division (7 games)

1 fixed opponent from the opposite division

2-3 OoC games

and use championship week for everyone to have a game (East 1 v West 1.......East 8 vs. West 8)
with the E1 v W1 at a set location and everyone one else plays the other games at their respective stadiums rotating East stadiums (year 1)and West stadiums (year 2)

I see a few things...complete elimination of two major conferences (Big 12 and Big East/ACC). Another issue is that it will take longer for you to play all the teams in the other division...

What are you really eliminating? a 14 year old conference and the big east (a conference that hasn't been a power since the move by VT and Miami)

With the idea I presented you would play all the teams on your side, a cross conference rival, and a same caliber team from the opposite side of your conference every year.

Why is a 12 team better? cause we are used to it?
You play all teams in a 4 year span, but there is no assurance in this system that you will catch one of these teams on a competitive year. What if you luck out and catch Tenn on the fresh and soph year of a QB and Ark catches them on their JR and SR. year. is this fair? is this equal? everyone plays each other, but is that really the best. By that view you could argue that the best structure would be an 8 team conference or a 10 team (w/9 conference games) that way you play every team each year.
