Slive doesn't want to break up a conference. If the big XII breaks up, he wants OU and UT. UT wants the Pac 10. So, he will take a&m. OU, can't figure out why, wants to stay with texas.
if Ou accepts to the s.e.c. move bama to the east. AU becomes their permanent opponent in the west. bama gets to play UT and Au yearly as they want.
this is why the reports are coming out the s.e.c. not interested in a.c.c. team. he doesn't want to break up a conference. he's trying to work with what is out there.

Problem is say the Big 12 dissolves. The SEC gets UT, OU, A&M and some one else. All fine and dandy.
Could this be too much power in one conference? Could all these Power houses denying themselves a legit shot at the NC? It would be damn hard to win the SEC. It would be even harder to come out with only one loss all year. So some hotdog teams in the Pac and the Big 10 waltz thru an easy schedule and come out undefeated. Who plays for the NC then? Will the BCS deny an undefeated major conference team a shot?

all great points, but look at it like this:
youd have a national championship calibur game almost every week.
so the actual NC game might suck... the SEC would be all but guarenteed a spot even with one loss.

If you shunt Bama/Auburn to the east then the schedule difficulty stays roughly the same in the west - in the east it would be tougher tho

The west is tougher, now. only three teams from the east have made the champ game. no so on the west.
At this time, it's florida and that's it. on the best days it's florida, Georgia, and UT.

I agree they should, but would they?

If Texas decided to stop playing OU every year in Dallas, it would devastate the Sooner program in terms of recruiting. It really would. OU knows this and will do whatever Texas tells them to do.

quote:That doesn't make sense. AU is more "easterly' in location than Bama is. Also, the AU/UGA rivalry is just as heated, and odler, than Bama/Tenn. I don't see Auburn and Athens giving that annual game up without a fight.

ok, bama or Au would have to give up one of the their 2 rivals. which would you rather, giving up bama or u.g.a.?
