for the life of me, i will never understand this argument. kids in TX know allll about the SEC. they have tvs and internet. the reason LSU has been so successful in E TX and houston has been aTm's awfulness. kids will drive 4 hours to play for a big time team: LSU.

its the same argument aTm has hid behind for not playing us recently (and apparently we broke the last deal and owe them some cache). i simply dont buy that one game every other year will all of a sudden will send recruits in a max exodus out of TX and into the heart of the SEC's best teams. will someone explain for me what i dont understand?

there is nothing to explain. that is argument being made by SECtards. Texas kids grow up dreaming of playing for UT. that wont change. Its not like these kids have never heard of the SEC before

most recruting experts in texas think sec playing regularly in texas is good for SEC recruiting.

I thought LSU recruited well in Texas when LSU played TAMU every year. Harvey Williams? Who else?

Honestly, I think the opposite will happen. You will see UT and TAMU stealing some of your recruits rather than the other way.

TAMU has a great campus and tradition.

UT is UT.

And, I hate to say it, but the state of texas is just better than many of the states in the SEC!

Sure TX kids grow up dreaming of playing for UT, but they can only take 25/yr. Still plenty D1 talent to go around. & if u think meyer and saban aren't gonna jump all over the opportunity to steal a few 4 or 5 stars a year bc of the SECs new exposure in the state of TX u are kidding urself

eta: boy I can write a run on sentence w/ the best of em

I believe it will hurt LSU recruiting too, but I'm not afraid of the competition. That's what's so great about being part of the SEC.

why havent they done it already. the state of texas isnt a secret. why all of a sudden would playing @ aTm make them want to recruit in TX. they are some of the most savvy recruiters of all time. you think they dont know about fertile TX?

"I want to play in the SEC" has been a growing sentiment among top high school players. Lsu has been the closest option for Texas kids that feel that way. If A&M comes to the Sec, LSU becomes the second closest option for many of those kids. If A&M gets its shite together and competes for SEC titles then it becomes a massive problem for LSU in recruiting TX. If A&M is MS State west then the impact would be minimal. There is an obvious potential threat there, though.

pac ten teams are thinking the same thing.......I think another reason why Texas doesn't like this. They already know the other pac ten teams will recruit texas harder than they already did. Now, they most likely will have two conferences who are looking to really take from the state. Texas still gets theirs, just think the overall pressure of recruiting on the state will be higher than ever.

SECs new exposure
the most damning thing for LSU's recruiting will be a good A&M. that will be the problem. kids dont want to play in a conference, they want to play for big time teams

I'm sure they are, but w/ the extra exposure the SEC will now get in TX this will give them another angle to land more of those guys

they do but according to a link I saw, the SEC only took 6 of the top 100 football players out of texas last year. Not saying this is the case every year but most seem to think actually having a team from the state in the conference will help. I think it helps LSU the most as Tamu won't just be super successful on a drop of a hat. I also think LSU could have the most to lose if Tamu becomes relevant. If you are a Texas kid and Tamu/LSU are both succesful, who do you most likely want to play for?

I think the reward far outweighs the risk. It isn't like we don't have our own borders to protect from being raided by other schools. There are states that only wish they could have half the recruits LA has every year. They would be ecstatic if they did!

the SEC goes to florida for players. the bigXII used to LIVE in TX- from kansas on down, everyone hit the lone star state. the pac10 has ALWAYS hit california. its just the way it goes

the current SEC will stick to their recruiting grounds with minimal exception.

pretty much what I said

I don't think it really hurts that much, even if Tamu becomes relevant. There are always kids who would like to experience something different and get away from their families. LSU is close but still far enough away that momma cant just drop by. It is a different experience but not a world away culturally.
