Coaches Poll since 1999(when they went to the Alamo Bowl and lost 24-0 to PSU). That's kind of hard to believe.
What happened to them?

They learned the hard way that going 9-3 or 8-4 every year isn't the worst possible scenario

Will joining help or hurt A&M's chances? How about the conference?

It would most certainly help their recruiting. A lot of Texas kids want to play in the SEC, and/or stay fairly close to home. A&M may be able to offer that option if they are invited. The SEC move is a million times better for them than a Pac-10 move IMO.

Their fans are going to be able to watch them on CBS and all of the ESPN Networks prior to a 10:00 kickoff. They will be getting much more exposure east of the MS and instate players will see them playing the best. Texas will now have a great volleyball team.

Started with RC. He was slow to adjust to early recruiting and was losing the recruiting battles to Mack and Bob.
By the time he got it, the natives were restless and he was canned. Fran was "goldenboy" (wasn't he Bama?) having been successful at mid-major NM resurrected TCU. (History reveals he was luckier than good - LT and Gary Patterson)
He literally RAN the program to the precipice of oblivion. How do take a record setting passer and turn him into a fullback taking snaps?
What happened? That's what happened.
Jury is out on Sherman. I like what he's doing - top 5 Offense. New D staff, scheme and attitude. (we'll see)
I anticipate the AP top 25 drought to end this year.

We were kicking OU and Texas across the field and then all of a sudden they both caught up. We need to get back to that ground and pound philosphy.

amongst other things, the media made it the OU-UT conference..

Should have said in bowl games, but what a way to to be a a-hole.

your post wasn't a-hole-ish?
It had absolutely nothing to do with the topic, and it was just you trying to dick measure in front of an OSU fan with no reason to do so.

Trust me, as a long-time Aggie I feel the pain of basically having to watch sub-par football for FAR too long. A&M's defense has been terrible since 2001 and the whole Fran debauchery was nothing short of torture. I think DeRuyter will turn this defense around and, with a little luck, recruiting will turn around with a move to the SEC. I give Mike Sherman credit for recognizing the problem with this program, the defense sucking, and going out and hiring the best available coach to fix it. Time will tell but I think we're headed in the right direction.
