Big10 Division

Division alignment: The Big Ten also must figure out divisions in the coming months. Delany listed three main criteria for sorting them out: competitive fairness, maintenance of rivalries and geography. He stressed that competitive fairness is the No. 1 priority, which I believe to be the correct approach. Geography shouldn't determine divisions. You don't want another Big 12 South scenario.
Everyone's been saying East/West vs North/South, but it appears neither of those is correct. How do you see the Big10 division happening?

I don't see why you couldn't have an East/West, even still, especially if you add a ND and a Rutgers, or something.

OSU
PSU
Michigan
Michigan St
Northwestern
Illinois
Indiana
Purdue
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Iowa
Nebraska
If they want to protect rivalries they almost have to keep OSU, PSU, Mich, Mich st together. Which I'm not a fan of for football...will be overly weighted.

How do they know who will be competitive 15 years from now?

This.
I really don't feel a division with Nebraska, Iowa, and Wisky at the top will be that much worse than one with OSU, Mich, and PSU at the top, and it's hard to know where each team will be in the future.

That's true. I think there are certain assumptions that can be made, but for the most part, you really don't know.
Either way, I'm most excited about

Delany has never been rah-rah about them, but he expects the Big Ten to begin playing a championship game in football in 2011. Venues and locations haven't been discussed, but Big Ten associate commissioner for television administration Mark Rudner and others will begin examining the possibilities. Feedback from athletic directors and coaches will be gathered before any decisions are made. "It’s important to get it right, and there’s no silver bullet," Delany said. "There will be different views on it."

I'm just saying, you make a East/West, it's geographically right, it keeps the rivalries, and it's probably about as fair as possible, from a competitive standpoint.

Championship game will either be at soldier field or Lucas oil stadium, imo

Hmmmm that looks to be unbalanced to me
You need another heavy weight on the Nebraska side of the conference IMHO

You guys need to be patient. I'd wait till the dust has a chance to settle. More teams might be on the way.

I agree...hence the rest of my post you left out.

More teams will definitely come, but the only reason Nebraska joined so fast was due to the Big12 pressuring them to decide.
Whoever else joins will probably happen a little slower. I don't know that anyone will be added before next season plays out(in which we would have to have divisons set up).

I set my wedding date for Sept 24 because itsva bye week in 2011...if they redo the schedule because of Nebraska I'm gonna be sooooo pissed.
Posted on 6/12/10 at 10:37 am to SprintFun
I'm assuming they'll have to switch the schedule, wouldn't they? Delaney also said they may up the in-conference schedule.
Posted on 6/12/10 at 10:46 am to BuckeyeFan87
My hope is that Sept is still during the ooc schedule, so maybe the bye won't get affected.

Switch Indiana schools and Illinois schools.
You have to go by geography in my book

Purdue, OSU, Mich st all in the same basketball division is waaaay too stacked, imo. Don't forget the division alignment is for all sports.
Posted on 6/12/10 at 11:23 am to SprintFun
I see your point, but I like pure geography as a determinative factor. If its tough or easy the teams need to adjust.

Wow! That's a heavy slant to the OSU division. They'd beat up on each other and, assuming they had a title game, would be able to sit their starters after the first quarter against the other division (unless NU becomes strong again). This is a great alignment for NU.
