Is UT afraid of LSU? We are about to find out...

I live in Texas, so most of my friends are UT fans. I just posted this on Facebook...
The University of Texas is about to choose the conference it joins. Will it be the PAC-10? Or will it be the SEC? Let's compare...
Money? Well the Texas market is the Texas market. You'll either add that to the SEC's market or you'll add that to the PAC-10's market. The SEC wins this hands down.
Geography? The furthest UT would have to travel in the SEC is to South Carolina, which is about as far as they travel to Colorado. In the PAC-10, the trip to Seattle is huge. This isn't such a big deal for football, but for all the other sports it will be costly both in terms of dollars and how much time the athletes waste traveling.
The only argument that has any merit at all is academics, but this doesn't hold up to scrutiny. They've been quite content to spend the last 14 years in the Big-12, and have stated that their first choice would be to continue in the Big-12. Overall, academically the Big-12 is no better than the SEC. So while they will see an improvement jumping to the PAC-10, this argument fails if they would have stayed in the Big-12 over the PAC-10.
The only thing left, is that UT doesn't want to face the stiff competition of the SEC. Now the SEC has already said that if UT, A&M, OU, and OSU were to join that Alabama and Auburn would get shifted into the Eastern Conference. With 8 team divisions, there would only be one inter-division game per year and 5 of the 8 teams are tough. Then again, in the Big-12 they had to play Nebraska every other year. Though Nebraska has had some down years they are traditionally very tough. So this seems a wash. So it must be in divisional play. So who gets added to UT's division? LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State. I doubt they are too worried about Arkansas, as they played them plenty of times in the old SWC. And I doubt they are worried about Ole Miss or Mississippi State. So, the only team that makes them nervous is LSU. Are they really willing to take a big hit financially to avoid playing LSU? I'm sure they are confident (true or not) that they would win more than they'd lose to LSU, but it looks like they are so scared of adding another tough game to their schedule that they'd be willing to pass on millions of dollars a year.
If they join the PAC-10 that would have to be the case.

Didn't read all of that but to answer your question, no. I think that they are afraid of the SEC though.

I'm sure that's the main deciding factor for Texas administration at this moment.

they arent afraid of LSU, but they are afraid of just being another team in the conference...something they have never had to deal with....
as much as I hate to admit, they are probably more afraid of Alabama's shadow than LSU's.

Its not afraid of an individual school. It is afraid of a quantity of good schools. Any school in the SEC can beat any other, no matter how good or bad the other is. Rarely are there asswhippings in this conference. Texas doesn't like that and wants a conference they are THE big dog, not risk having a few down years where they barely/don't make a bowl game, which would certainly happen quite a few times in the SEC. They are pussies.

That's just it. They'll only have one out of division game. So those aren't that big a deal. Half the time it's tough, half the time it's not. Who are they in a division with? LSU, Arky, Ole Miss, and MSU. That's what they are afraid of...

People need to realize that the Networks have a much bigger say in this than many think

Ole Miss and Arky can often pull of upsets, and State does at least one a year.

They'd get more network cash in the SEC

The important part here is that I'm getting to yank the chain of a bunch of UT fans.

+ Bama, Auburn ,A&M. It wouldn't be a 6 team division.

Bama and Auburn would get moved to the Eastern Division. The 4 schools from the Big-12 (that play each other already) would be added to the west with LSU, Arky, OM, and MSU.

Actually, UT to the PAC-10 is making less and less sense to me unless they've got some seriously distorted vision of how much their new TV deal is going to be worth...
Comparing the 6 teams going to the PAC-10 with the four teams (UT, A&M, OU and OSU) going to the SEC (assuming that Bama and Aub switch to the east), here are the divisions:
Pac-16: UT, A&M, OU, OSU, TT, CU, AZ, ASU
SEC-16: UT, A&M, OU, OSU, LSU, Arky, OM, MSU
The first 4 teams are the same, so that's a wash. TT's been pretty good lately. I think they are pretty comparable to Arky. I'd give the nod to Arky, but not by much. AZ and ASU seem comparable to OM and MSU. So essentially they'd be trading an easy win against CU for a tough game with LSU.

UTx wants to make it to the MNC game so they can still lose to the SEC, they make more money that way. The Pacwhatever gives them that chance.

Not unless the PAC is willing to make an uneven distribution of television and bowl revenue...

The thing they might do that the SEC wouldn't do. The SEC would not put up with the Texass arrogance and bull shite.

I'll believe that when I see it.

They put up with Bama's arrogance in football and UK's in basketball...

I put this in a thread I started last night and I do believe the worst thing Texas would be doing is segregating themselves from their fanbase.
The SEC does not need Texas but, Texas needs the SEC!
But, because they have spewed their mouths out about how much better they are than the SEC they can not find it within themselves to ask the SEC to let them in!
It is not about Texas coming to the SEC or going to the PAC-10, it is about Texas having control of their destiny wherever they go. They want everyone in that conference to bow down to them so that it will make their entry into that conference fit their agenda not the conferences.
For them to go out West special things will have to be put into place for them to be able to compete on a level playing field in all their sports men's and women, with those that do not have to travel as far.
The biggest mistake Texas will be making going out West will isolation from their fanbase and to me this is the biggest issue of it all. They will be leaving their comfort zone of Texas as a whole in order to be a vital part of the PAC-10.
I do not believe or there is no way that the fanbase as a whole is in full agreement with them going to the West coast to play their games when they can stay in their own timezone and play a more rewarding schedule than going out West. JMHO!

Yes they rather play in the conference that is about to have no BCS titles as oppose to the on that has six.
