RE: I think Texas and Texas A&M in the SEC would be outstanding
Negative. Backwoods people, backwoods politics and recruiting, sub par academics. No thanks.

I don't think I could deal with a conference with the arrogance of Bama, UF, and UTx fans all at once.

I love the snobs that talk about superior academics.

OP:
Ok, I know it will never happen...but man that would be one fun conference. I know the UT fanbase would really get into the whole SEC atmosphere (it is undoubtedly the best out there)...and will have no problem at all competing...in fact would likely be the team to beat in the SEC West. Any thoughts?
Hornfan84 (Texas Fan):
In case you haven't noticed...given that we are one of the big 3 (football states), our atmosphere is just fine. You can keep the trailor homes and RV parking lots. We'll keep Austin.

Yeah they are a class act. Those elitist assholes on the left coast and the Longhorns deserve each other.

I lived in Texas for a short time. Calling SEC people backwoods? Pot meet kettle.

Longhorn fans will fit in just fine at the 30 minute wine-and-cheese tailgate parties they have for a whole 30 minutes before kick-off in the PAC-10.

Why do Texas fans/alumni seem to think they're Ivy League material? They sound like a bunch of sweater wearing, croquet playin pussies... YOU LIVE IN frickIN TEXAS!
I understand the importance of academics, but holy shite they sound arrogant.

OP:
You forgot to mention the nicest and most friendly people on earth, the prettiest campuses, and the best college football atmosphere in America...not to mention the best football talent. I was thinking some UT fans would be wanting to take a step up and not back.
And no offense, but anybody from Texas calling someone else "backwoods" really doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
Texas Fan:
You have to understand, not everyone outside the South has quite the reverence for the region or SEC football that people who live there seem to have.

You can also throw in Georgia and Florida. They are right there with Texas. And what does academics have to do with your sports league?

So going to the SEC would imply they have to leave Austin???

Why do Texas fans always bring up their academic stuff? They recruit that same idiots all the SEC schools do.
Vandy is a higher ranked academic school anyway, and I'm sure UF and UGA are up there if not higher than UT.
