Texas will not join the SEC because...

simply stated, they cannot handle the likes of LSU, Bama, Florida, etc. in football on a yearly basis. Last year, had they played in the SEC, they would not have made the national championship game. Their football worries would be minimal in the "PACwhatever" especially now that USC took a hit.
To hell with Texas and their arrogant asses...bring in aTm and either Florida State, Georgia Tech, or Clemson.
This is my opinion - FWIW.
SEC!

If this was just a football decision I think Texas would but it's mpre to this than sports.

No, it's because they only want to be the big fish in the pond. That doesn't happen in the SEC. No one school is bigger than the others.

You guys crack me up with this stupity.
2 years ago Bama and Florida were 7-6 (2-6) and 9-4. The Last 2 years LSU was 8-5, 9-4. Oh and they would not have to play all 3 every year anyway.

Last year Bama and Florida were the 2 best teams, so, I'd agree that Texas would not have been in the NCG. If they played both they would have 2 and (only 2 loses). Texas was better than everyone else in both the SEC and nation last year. In 2005, Texas would have won the SEC and the NC. It goes in cycles.

According to a source, Texas President Bill Powers wants to go to the Pac-10, but Longhorns coach Mack Brown wants to stay in the Big 12. Texas A&M's first choice is to stay in the Big 12; its second choice is to go to the Southeastern Conference, the source said.
Mack Brown knows the school will go down hill if they join the SEC.

The interesting dynamic is that Texas and Texas A & M are a package deal and both seem to be wanting different things.
I would like to see Texas and Texas A & M in the SEC WEST, with Alabama moved to the SEC East. That would be 14 teams and a fair balance. We don't need 16 teams to be a super conference. We are already the super conference with just 12.

texas wants a&m to be a package deal with them but it looks like a&m wouldn't mind splitting with texas if they get a better deal in the sec.

Wrong. Alabama is easily the most prestigious team in the SEC. Some others like LSU and Florida have had a run of success due to Alabama's probation a few years back, but I think Bama is back on top to stay. And no, I'm not a closet Bama fan.

Texas would easily be one of the best teams on a year in and year out basis in the SEC. It would be Alabama, Florida, Texas and LSU as the top dogs every year.

Plus, Texas would kick alot of arse in the SEC in basketball and baseball.
