The good that will come out of conference expansions...

is that we'll see a playoff sooner than later.
If these "super conferences" have 16+ teams, it's going to be damn near impossible to determine a true conference champion and even more unlikely to determine a true national champion. The current system may be OK right now, and yes, it's exciting, but there is going to be so much controversy involved in this shite in the years to come.
I would be fine with playing a schedule comprised of nothing but games among conference members. But I'd rather see the Big East fold and have only four conferences. Then after the conference championship games, you have a four-team playoff.
If this scenario plays out, and the powers that be continue using the current bowl system, college football won't be worth watching after the conference champions are determined.

A lot of pundits are saying this might actually put us further from a playoff because the conferences will be making so much money now they won't want to rock the boat.

Christ this is going to be boring as frick.
I just don't see how you can determine who the actual best team is in a conference that large. If you can't do that, how are you supposed to determine a national champion?

I'm thinking that if the SEC adds two more teams, that would mean seven teams per division requiring each team to play six of its division rivalries, thus leaving only two slots for playing conference from the other division. This would more likely than not lead to dumping the permanent opponent from the other diviaion. Ergo, we don't play Florida every year (except for when we meet them in the conference championship game). This is a big positive note in my book!

I would actually hate that. I can see where some or most like that idea but I love the LSU/UF game. Talk about a big big game here recently. In a way UF is a rival. I would not want to lose playing them now if we could get away with playing in the swamp...

HUGE negative for me.
Love that rivalry.

This will be the worst thing to come of expansion, IMO.

Why would you oppose a playoff?

With all due respect to your opinion, please enlighten me as to why it would be the worst thing to happen.
You don't have the eliminate the bowls entirely, so there is no need to sound the alarm. The Little Caesar's Bowl will be just fine. I understand those games are huge sources of revenue for smaller schools and for teams that are postseason eligible, and they rightfully deserve a reward.
But you have to understand that increasing the number of teams in every major conference poses a number of problems:
The inability to determine a true conference champion due to not scheduling each team within the conference thereby eliminates head-to-head matchups. Thus, we have no way of knowing who's better if only a limited number of conference games are played in these super conferences.
College football is all about the rivalries, the drama, and the pageantry. This expansion process could prove beneficial if the right steps are taken to determine a true conference champion and subsequent national champion. But, there needs to be only four major conferences.
I know it's probably out of the question, but in a 16-team conference, you have one of several options, but here are two:
1) You play a 15-game regular season schedule (all conference games); the two division winners play each other for the conference championship. The winner of the championship game advances as an AQ to the four-team playoff.
2) You keep the current 12-game regular season schedule, but the teams within the conference do not play outside of their division. Therefore, they play seven conference games and five non-conference games.
***This option preserves rivalries (i.e., KU vs Missouri, Nebraska vs Colorado, Texas vs Texas A&M, Texas vs OU, OU vs Oklahoma State, etc...)

Well, I have a feeling since this is all about money, it will be a big playoff, a 16 team playoff.
Now, I'm sure most will eat it up and it'll make tons of money. But for my enjoyment factor, a 16 team playoff is the absolute worst thing ever for college football.
For me, what separates it from every other sport is that every single game watching LSU is absolutely HUGE. When I watch the Saints, if we're 4-0 and lose our 5th game, it's not really a big deal. If LSU is 6-0, our 7th game of the year is like a HUGE freaking deal.
With a 16 team playoff, all of that goes away. Sure, losses will still suck. But I'll basically know that every single season, LSU can lose 2 games that I really don't have to worry about because we'd still easily get into the top 16. I truly, truly HATE that.
The only playoff I'd truly be ok with would be a 4 team playoff. Otherwise, it's just making the regular season less meaningful.

I completely agree with this.

It'll never happen and I'd never be on boat with a schedule that consisted of ONLY conference games. It would also be the end of the little schools who make the bulk of there yearly profits by playing 1 or 2 big dogs on the road and getting a nice chunk of change.
