In a word: Bleak. The penalty was pretty severe, mostly with regards to the loss of scholarships.
Nonetheless, FIGHT ON!

Personally if I was a fan of USC I would begin a petition to remove Lame Kiffin from any sort of public speaking situation for the next 5 years...that guy is doing your beloved University no favours evrytime he opens his mouth.

He was a bit of a jackass at Tennessee. He is arrogant and cocky.
Still, since arriving at USC he hasn't said anything cringeworthy in the media that I'm aware of.
If he holds our recruiting classes together despite the fallout from NCAA sanctions, he'll have earned himself
some serious lattitude, in my eyes.

My timeline of events for USC stories -
A few years ago USC was winning and a major BCS powerhouse.
Then this terrible tragidy beset their program which garnered national attention:
There will be a long drawn out process which will unfold before the nation:
They will use their history, location, money and best recruites as best they can however:
They will go through advirsity and probably a coaching staff or two but will eventually emerge from the current sanctions:
Their legacy may be tarnished, but after the passage it will be business as usual.
