Posted by EkarDrake on 6/15/10 at 7:14 pm
Over 22 pts. No more than 34
5 rebs
Over 6 assists
2 stls
1 blk
quote:

In '96 he shot 41%
in '97 he shot 45%
In '98 he shot 42%

But his numbers in 91-93 where fricking insane

Kobe esque numbers...there were games when MJ was taking 30-35 shots...
MJ averaged at least 25 FGA per game during the Bulls finals runs. He just hit 50% of them though  and his team played consistent team defense, much much better than the Celtics.

I also dont think Kobe leads any differently than Jordan, it is just that I believe Jordan had tougher nosed teammates that could take and relished under that leadership; Kerr, Buechler, Wennington, Harper, etc. Those guys were tough guys that didnt back down. They feared MJ so much that they wanted to play well for him so that hed shut the frick up.

Kobes teammates outside Fisher and Gasol and Odom( when he is alive on the court) and Bynum, I can't see it every night from them. Despite this, I look for them to win the series lol. IMO, Kobe's teammates fear him, yet they just dont know how to respond and cancel that fear appropriately.

Allen, Pierce, and KG were all perennial losers and chokers before coming together.

They were Vince Carters

Odom not backing down and turning KG into a girl is what the Lakers need

I dont know what happened to this..the players literally have the free reign to do whatever they want since the ref (cough the league) decided before the finals that no one would get their 7th tech or get ejected unless it as totally outta bounds.

I think they are just dejected, but not intimidated

The sad truth is that this Celtics team reminds of a school yard bully. If you punch them one good time in the mouth, they are done. I think Kobe understands that, having done this to KG repeatedly while KG was in Minny.

I feel like that is a one of the best statements said about the series. When they are matched in terms of "physicality" they dont know how to react because teams usually bow down to them...

Kobe knows he cant be the only one swinging..
quote:

and FYI Kobe played on a 34 win team (04), a 45 win team (05) and a 42 win team (06) in his prime

Jordan played on a 38 win team (84), a 30 win team (85) and a 40 win team (86) in his first three seasons

They were the same age at that time...

Kobe's career path is so hard to project to others because we won SO early..he was winning championships at 22.

You have to count his early sucess but then you have to consider that he wasnt the focal point at the time, so he wasnt going to be able to put up jordan points.

thats what I meant.

In the end its still a team game.

Pierce carried them, and the others held their own defensively.

Kobe cant stop the celtics 1 on 5 on D

Well, in their defense Kobe wasn't playing on that end of the floor either. And most guys in the NBA don't play good defense when they're just standing around on offense.

Bron's teammates helped him out when he did it in '07, Jordan's teammates helped him out when he went off.

Yeah Kobe didnt play great D, but he was playing enough to the point that if the others played about 90% on D, that they could compensate for his 75%-80%..and that has to give if he is gonna carry the load on the offensive end.

Oh and here's that Simmons quote:

quote:

Kobe -- Greatness. Yes he's going to win some, but only because he wants to be considered great and that will be a by-product at times. But you'd also see him shoot his team out of a game; jack 3s when he should press the issue and get to the paint. He didn't mind losing a few games if people came away saying 'Kobe is great; look what happens when he doesn't shoot.

Honestly, that is the last thing Kobe was thinking about this night. It may sum up his career, but he was just trying to get the W tonight

Well in Kobe's defense, he says, "well If we move the ball around, I get blamed for not taking over, AND we get blown out."

So what is a leader to do? Great leaders take control and put the team on their backs, and tell them to ride it out, and to HELP me.

Kobe did his part offensively, and the TEAM failed him in the 3rd quarter particulary in terms of team defense. They played the dumbest quarter ive seen a finals team play in sometime.

Jordan got away with those performances because his TEAM helped him out on defense and bailed him out. You can use the spectators excuse as an explanation in the FINALS. Not acceptable at all.
And as a leader, if a teammate isnt getting it down, and the job needs to be done, then the leader must suggest the 2nd best possible solution out there for his troops. If you can't take it, I dont know how you made it this far.

Kobe's teammates failed him today in the 3rd quarter. All he essentially asked them to do is to play one end of the court, and they couldnt even do that well.
Im okay with being outmatched...

But making Biddy ball game mistakes and being outhustled is something that I will never settle with
These guys have absolutely FAILED Kobe Byrant. You feel for a guy that puts it all out there, and his teammates play like deers in headlights for 3 straight games.

Odom, Artest, Brown, Farmar, Walton, Sasha...they all looked retarded out there; either scared of the moment or just forgot their assignments.

For three games, the lakers have had too many defensive lapses for a championship team. Entirely too many. Guys not knowing who the help off, guys not closing out, guys simply not putting a hand up in a shooters face (its the little things that make you a championship ball club), boxing out (its position and length, NOT STRENGTH).

Ron Artest and Odom are having an All-Tim finals choke job performances.

Bynum is gritting it out, and Kobe is trying to carry his team by doing the offensive, and just hoping for a stop.

Artest is making mistakes out their that your kids make in JV. Its tough to watch

I'm 20, and I can remember watching the finals since 1994, so that is 16 finals right their, and I havent seen a finals team play as dumb as the Lakers have in a three game stretch ever.

Its different if you are outmatched...but they are just playing stupid...
no specific order

Hakeem, Barkley, Pippen (1999)
Duncan, Robinson, Elliot (1999-2003)
Chambers, Barkley, Majerle
Webber, Vlade, Peja
Webber, Miller, Peja
Gasol, Bynum, Artest/Odom
Perkins, Garnett, Pierce
Kareem, Worth, Green
Pippen, Grant, Cartwright
Pippen, Rodman, Kuckov
Kemp, Detlef, Big Smooth
Howard, Webber, Muresan (I just realized this now, but I didn't recall it when i watched this series back in 1997 that they ran a 1-2-4-4-5 line up. Unbelieveable. I remember sensing this teams untapped potential at 7 years of age. They had alot of pieces with Rod Strickland at the PG. They pushed the bulls in the first round and I was legitimately scared that they could win the series)

Did I leave any out?

quote:

The refs have allowed the Celtics to play that way for 3 years now. I am not sure if I have ever seen a legal screen set by Perkins, movves all teh time. And you are right both Garnett and Perkins just in a manner that dares the reft to call it. Phil will say something and get fined but the calls will go L.A.'s way in game 5.

Its ridculous and I can stand to watch it. It looks like a sissy bar fight. Honestly, KG is one of those guys that if you swing at his arse first, that he wont fight back. He seriously won't.

Theyve been getting credit for their D for three years, and theyve been playing 90s D in the neo-NBA for all three of them.

Anyways, the Celtics can't piece together a overall game, and once the Lakers get Bynum off of two days rest, I think they should be ready to go.

You are watching the same series as me, its horrendous
