Could Florida Drop Off Our Schedule?

If the SEC accepts several more teams, is it a possibility that we could drop our annual rivalry with Florida?
I haven't seen anyone else make this point, but I would love to replace the rivalry game with Florida with another team....

Me too, especially if you get a Florida State. That would naturally take the LSU-Florida game to the rotation stuff.

I would think all the annual rivalries would be gone. Except those that may involve teams moving to the east or west.
My guess is you'd have 7 in division games, 2 other division games that rotate, and 3 OOC.

Yeah, its possible, but here is my idea for a guarantee that rivalry games stay in tact from another thread:
SEC West
SEC Plains: Texas, A&M, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State
SEC Delta: Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss, and MSU
SEC East
SEC Central: Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, and Vanderbelt
SEC Atlantic: Kentucky, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida
You play the 3 teams in your subdivision every year as well as 3 other teams in the SEC so rivalry games aren't split up by the new split (LSU for instance being A&M, Florida, and Alabama). Other 3 games rotate around the SEC, and your remaining 3 are OOC games.

Because I'm interested in having a better shot at winning the national title each year.
Think about how many times Georgia has had their path to the national title blocked by Florida.
Call it chickenshit, blah, blah, blah. Does Alabama have to play Florida every year regular season? No. Would Alabama have defeated Florida twice to get to the national title game? Who knows? But their path definitely would have been harder.

PJ, you are used to losing and I am used to winning. That's why I want Florida gone. Use your head.

And unless the conference title game goes away, you are still gonna have to go through Florida to get there. I think the toughness of the opponent and the intensity of the game is more important that scheduling a patsy just to win. I'm not advocating scheduling USC, OU, Texas, and Ohio State for our out of conference games every year, but I think you know what I mean.

No, I'm not SACRED of Florida.
It's so much easier to call someone a pussy, than have a well thought out debate.

I don't mean to come across as rude, but you just made my point. If we can drop Florida as an annual rival and they are still good enough to represent the SEC East in the SEC title game, isn't that a difficult enough schedule for LSU? Why should we have to play them twice in order to advance to the national title game? Alabama didn't and it worked to their advantage.

Jezzus Christ, you don't win the NC by dodging teams. You need to play the best to win the NC game. That's why the Big Ten gets their arse kicked in the NC.

You have to respect their program, and their success. And beating them is a big deal. I'll never forget the 2007 game. I gave my tickets (which are crappy) to a kid that wanted them and watched the game on the Parade Ground on satellite. It was nuts. My brother, who played at Texas, texted me and said "Jacob Hester is a football god!" THAT's why I love that game so much, it incites PASSION!
This is my official 2,000th post, and I'm signing off now!

I don't see why the rivalries would go away. If you add two to the east and two to the west and keep it the way it is otherwise, those new teams would start 2 new "rivalries."

Ok, not signing off yet. You could be right, assuming Florida didn't get beat by someone else in the East. But...that game at Tiger Stadium on Saturday Night is leaps and bounds above that game at the Georgia Dome for me. Sure, the Georgia Dome is for all the marbles but the magic of Tiger Stadium for me makes me want to keep that game around...forever.

So, do you not think that LSU would play the best teams in college football by playing their SEC West schedule, plus the new additional teams in the SEC West? We would probably drop one of the out of conference patsies and play an extra SEC game.
So factor in all that, and you still think we should have to beat Florida twice to get to the national title game?
All I'm saying is, our road is tough enough without having to face the Gators twice.

I am more concerned with winning the SEC. The mnc is just Lagniappe.
