SEC doesn't really need anymore football schools. how about adding two basketball powerhouses?

Duke, UNC, Virginia and Va Tech. Would help academic reputation a lot as well. Not that anyone cares about that.

I actually thought about that with Kansas and UNC. And both of their football programs are trending up.

Then add a combination of maybe FSU, VaTech, Ga Tech or Miami for additional football powerhouses/ big markets in Miami and Atlanta.

everyone says this expansion is about football, but duke and unc are the exception to the rule. to bring that rivalry plus the population of north carolina into the league would be a great move.

basketball is irrelevant in expansion

For the most part, but a handful of basketball focused schools do carry value. Duke, UNC, Kansas etc.

If they did then the PAC 10 would have invited Kansas not Colorado

TV market trumped all in that situation.

Yeah, but UNC's football program looks to be on the rise and they aren't going anywhere without Duke.

it's a fair point - Kansas has around 2.8 million people

they are probably tied at the hip to KSU tho. Much like NC is probably tied to Duke and NC State

I know. I've been as to why most keep rehashing GT/FSU/Miami as names to consider for expansion.

Invite Duke, UNC, Kansas, and either Texas AM, FSU, or Miami.

Tapping into some different geographical markets, upgrading academics a bit and creating a basketball super-conference with Duke, UNC, Kansas and UK all in the same conference.

it is for the Pac 10 and the Big 12, but the SEC would need to add schools from new markets: North Carolina would be a logical choice and it would make sense to take both North Carolina and Duke. Throw in Texas A&M and Virginia Tech and the SEC would be in a great position.

I'm with you all the way, except I think we would have to take an additional school from either Virginia or Texas to make it happen on either account. Won't do both either.

I like the idea of Duke and NC for the East. Texas and either Oklahoma or Texas A&M for the West.

Duke helps Basketball mainly.

NC helps basketball, baseball has had some good seasons and going to the SEC would help their building football program.

Texas improves all three big sports.

Texas A&M I kind of shrug at but it seems this is bound to happen by many.

I do not want UVa in the SEC. Nope. Nuh uh.

Asses kicked in football, not much better in basketball, we could be Ok in baseball. lol

NC would not just help basketball.
NC WON the overall trophy as best program in D 1 last year, beating out Stanford, for the first time in 18 years.
Stanford was just #2.

LSU finished #17, best finish EVER.

NC actually won multiple national championships last year.

Dude, Football pays for almost every other sport in the SEC. If you exclude Kentucky Basketball, LSU Baseball, and 1 or 2 others, it is the ONLY source of income for most AD revenues. The whole expansion process is about National TV contracts. Duke and NC do NOTHING to add to the SEC base. Basketball TV Revenue cannot compare to ESPN, ABC, and CBS's revenue from 15 weeks in the Fall.

My recommendation is bring Oklahoma and TAM in adding them to the west, and Move Auburn to the East. Adding any more than 2 teams makes the new league cumbersome.
