how about pulling all of BP's oil leases in this country. Keep the operating contracts in place and put the leases out to bid. In the meantime, all oil royalties could go to the people Obama just told to get on unemployment. Any takers?

If the investigation finds the fault lies with BP, I really hope this happens.

Who is going to operate those rigs when you pull the leases from BP?

I know people are upset but before posting something, try and put a little thought into your posts.

The same people that operate the production platforms now, Baker Energy and Island Operating. Who should put more thought???????

These are not 4 pile rigs. Baker and Island Operating do not have the resources to operate Thunderhorse, Marlin, Nakika, Horn Mountain, Holstein, Atlantis, or Mad Dog.

How do you figure? Everthing is on contract. BP is pretty much only the upper management of this. Baker and Island operate most of the production platforms in the gulf.

if you get in a wreck, do you think that the gov't should take all your other cars and auction them off to other people?

For one seizing BP's leases with private individuals as is the case onshore can't happen. America isn't communist Russia. Not granting any new leases is one thing, but to seize assets goes against all principles of our capitalist economic structure. Not to mention the incredible amount of lawsuits from BP shareholders. Without looking it up the majority of BP is likely owned by individuals, retirement accounts, pension plans, and institutional investors. Many of these people are in the US so seizing assets from BP could be viewed as seizing the assets from American citizens. People are angry but it's alarming to see communist ideals take hold.

False

There are some contract workers out there but most of the operations are handled by BP employees. So who is going to manage all of these facilities? Even if each of BP's partners were to take over the facilities the partners do not have the manpower to handle it.

While they may be a large player in the shallow gulf on fixed bottom structures, they do not have the people who have the expertise required for floating facilities.

If the leases are pulled from BP how will they pay for the clean up?

Amazing that people think seizing private property should be so easy. I suppose it seems like a good idea as long as it's someone else's property getting seized. Ask Venezuelian farmers how that works out in the end... Remember as well... if you own mutual funds you probably own a piece of Bp...

Nakika is Shell. But your point remains correct...

BP operates Nakika. Shell has the majority ownership and BP has a minority share.

Not what I'm saying at all. First of all, these oil leases do not belong to BP, they belong to the federal government. The government can take the lease away.

Sec. 12. Safety and Inspection Requirements. The Lessee shall.

maintain all operations within the leased area in compliance with regulations or orders intended to protect persons, property and the environment on the Outer Continental Shelf;
