BS........They will blame it on the evil oil and gas companies....remember the majority of the public is dumb and doesn't understand how the price is set.

Hope youre right ERSTER but I dont think so. Odrama will use this as an opportunity to push his agenda o n alternative energy. Mainly at La's expense IMO

he is going to use this to get La, Texas, Miss, and Alabama to vote for his cap and trade. this move is political and nothing more.

so this disaster hasn't convinced you that we should make more of an effort to move off of oil?

How long has alternative energy been pushed, and what do we have to show for it? At best estimates, 20-30 yrs down the road we will still be 75-80% reliant on fossil fuels. Wake up, the need for oil and gas isn't going anywhere, and if we decide to import more, just remember most of the bad oil spills were caused by tankers.

It doesn't change the fact that we don't have any reliable alternatives right now or for the foreseeable future. Oil and gas are the best solution to energy demand for the present. Because of the limited nature of wind, solar, geothermal, and other alternative energy we are going to need all the sources we can possibly harness in the next few decades. Add in that ethanol is a joke and is arguably worse for the environment when spilled because it will penetrate groundwater and the solutions are limited even further. Stopping oil drilling now is only adding to the problem.

FORCED change in any setting is not and will not be accepted by the American people. To think otherwise displays Obama's inablity to lead our great country.

Apparently this administration doesn't know its arse from a hole in the wall. They don't know what they're doing.

I didn't say I support the ban of offshore drilling (maybe just ban BP from drilling any more), but alternative energy should be on everyone's agenda now. We really need to step up the effort to replace oil.

1. Tell to that Kennedy's and their rich liberal friends who for years have blocked the development of wind farms off of Cape Cod because it would ruin their "view".

2. In theory you are correct, but do you KNOW the economic costs of forcing this before its ready? Well, I guess given the proposed bans that are likely to come, we'll get to see it. But name me one other time in history that a government has forced such a large societal change? Markets and economics, shaped by the government, but if the market isn't ready (and it isn't), its not going to happen just because some yahoo from Hawaii says so.
