An even larger plume — 22 miles long, six miles wide and more than a thousand feet deep — was reported by the University of South Florida.
This volume even at a 0.1% concentration of oil to water would be 275,279,928,685 (275 billion gallons or 655 million barrels) of petroleum in suspension.

An estimated 18 to 40 million gallons of oil have been unleashed...
The entire gulf only produces 550 million barrels a year. And they say there are multiple plumes.

You need to figure in dispersants. They said it could be those also.
I guess my question is, do you think they are making this up? Really?
I do believe they can be wrong on size/area of the plume, but to say it don't exist is very alarming to me. I don't believe they lied about it's existence.

The initial claim of underwater oil plumes may have been reported before any samples were even analyzed and it turned out not to be so. I believe this is what BP is refuting.
There have been a couple other expeditions locating underwater oil plumes since then and samples are still being analyzed

I'm not saying they don't exist, but to quote a volume that is 275 trillion gallons and not giving a concentration is misleading. But I'm still not buying the size. The volume just won't allow it at any visable concentration.

The environmental food don't like stats.
Stats are racist tools used by greedy pigs who only care about money and killing baby seals.

I know someone who works on one of the research ships that discovered underwater plumes
they're not making them up.

Well then who gives a frick how big they are, they do exist and BP is playing more head games with us by denying they are there.
