I still want to play, but I figured since i completely blew out my patellar tendon last year I'd retire.

I'm trying to get my son to play at Dutchtown. He'd rather play tennis
Posted on 5/31/10 at 6:46 pm to HeadSlash
He could definitely make more money playing tennis than lacrosse.

Did you see the game today? That middie with the long stick reminded me of Thayer.

currently 14 high schools in LA have a varsity club program. with more schools coming.
LINK
with the development of their JV & middle school programs, the sport has nowhere to go but UP!
LSU & Centenary have active teams that compete in the Lone Star Alliance in the MCLA (nation wide club lacrosse):
LINK
it does NOT cost $2500 per player to play on LSU's team. it used cost me about $450 each season, in dues, to play back in 2001-2005. my freshman year, that included my official LSU team equipment, uniform, & bag. each year after that $ was for misc. club team items & funding needs. we also participated in Sunday morning Tiger Stadium clean up of the 2 upper decks, 2-3 games a season. that helped our funding out tremendously. we also drove ourselves to our away games. which were some of the best times of my life.
Tulane & LA Tech go back & forth on having a team each year. Nicholls St. had a decent club program for a few years with Billy Tauzin as their HC, but i can't find anything recent on them. and he's in San Antonio coaching now. he's also coaching Team France this summer.
A large group of lafayette high school & st. thomas more recent lacrosse alumni (i'm sure a few other kids as well) are trying to get a team started at ULL. they'll have initial struggles, but they'll turn out solid in the end.
every school in the SEC will have a Div 1 team by 2020 according to a meeting held in the middle of 2009 in the SEC home offices.
imagine for a second all of the solid high school football players in the LA area alone who just weren't big/good enough to make a Div 1 NCAA roster. now, put a lacrosse stick in their hands...there are so many athletic kids in the gulf coast that will THRIVE in lacrosse. just wait and see.

i would like to see a link for this.
as pointed out before, what woman's sport could be added, or what men's sport would be removed? how in the hell would it be financially viable?

The answer is "not any time soon." I've done quite a bit of research on the topic (here's one of my blogs on it LINK / ), and I've also corresponded briefly with Joe Alleva.
Florida and Vandy have women's teams (and they're very successful), but they simply exist to further satisfy some Title IX requirements. It is possible , albeit slim, to see the growth of women's lax in our conference.
I'm obviously not debating how successful southern teams would be, and how incredible I think it would be if LSU had a team - it's one of my all time dreams, and I hope to see it before I die. I'm just merely telling you how it is.
FYI, I'm a HS lacrosse coach in Prairieville, LA, and an LSU alum (2008). I played for CE Byrd, and we were the third team in the state when we formed a team in 2001. Today there are 16 teams in the Louisiana HS Lax League, and are continuing to expand.

Also, don't discount LSU just because they're a club!!!
Many of Louisiana's All State players are committed to playing at LSU. The Lone Star Alliance lost five of their head coaches this past season, including UTexas. I'm expecting LSU's club to grow in popularity and skill as the sport continues to grow in our state.
And if you're still not convined:
Jake Most, All Conference Player for LSU, led the ENTIRE LEAGUE this past season in Goals Per Game (edited because I accidentally put PPG - he was third in that category)
LINK /
Being that I am Dutchtown's head coach, I can tell you that we cancel all of our practices to go watch LSU's home games. I think it's very important to show kids that they should want to play at the college level, whether it be NCAA (Varsity) or MCLA (club). There's nothing wrong with playing club ball at all for LSU.

Damn why wasn't that kid around when I was the president of the club?
Posted on 6/3/10 at 11:46 pm to lsu7171
Hell no.......it wouldn't get enough interest from any fans. You would a hand full of people go watch it. I don't even know if any high schools have lacrosse in Louisiana. It would never make it.

LAX is stupid. I go to STM and all the people that quit football play lacrosse and think they are hot shite. LSU would never get any legitimate athletes to play as most teams in the northeast do.

Initials RH?
Favorite Moment: Sweet goal against Tulane from a feed behind the net while I was breaking left to right.
Worst Moment: Getting the butt end of a ULL stick into my ribs as I was raising my stick to take a shot. Cracked two ribs.
Most Awesome Moment: Stealing a Rice player's girl during a tournament in Houston.
Most Regrettable Moment: Leaving Houston without getting contact info from that girl.

My wife and I both graduated from LSU and now live in Maryland. My highschool freshman daughter plays lacrosse and has already received feelers from colleges.
She asked me last week what if she is contacted by Florida? They are recruiting big time here in Maryland for lacrosse. That would hurt and I told her I would always support her but would NEVER root for Gators football.
I would love to get lacrosse at LSU. Both boys and girls.

Lacrosse is a terrific sport to watch and play.
It just plain kicks arse.

Hey khutch6. I would love to correspond. I left a response after you about having a daughter who plays here in Maryland. My son is a junior in highschool and plans on going to LSU. He also plays lacrosse at a decent level just not at the level of my daughter.
Among other plans he wants to coach highschool lacrosse someday. He would also be interested in playing on the LSU club team.

actually i have heard that we can expect LHSAA to add lacrosse fairly soon. I know there is really no interest for now in the area of the state i live in but have heard that the sport is getting larger in some of the larger cities in louisiana. When and if LHSAA starts a lacrosse season i see it getting larger throughout the rest of the state cause it is fairly interesting to watch despite my lack of knowledge of the game

Lived in Plantation Trace next to a psycho from Slidell with a room mate that loved to fish and had a wicked left handed shot?
