For reef dwelling species that's likely true. Red snapper are thought to be only indigenous to the area off the Florida/Alabama gulf coast. It was the vast growth of structure which has allowed their population to expand so much throughout the western gulf over the decades. The one aspect the article touches on is dispersants. Why are the regulating agencies allowing the dispersants to be used when their environmental impact could be much greater than the oil itself?

Reading my mind brother.....they are making shite up as they go along it seems. Much better for public perception to break up the oil throughout the water column than let it all come to the surface and let us see how big it really is right?
Although i don't agree with Al 100% about us having no fishery without the rigs all one has to do is make a dive around a rig and make a second one a few miles from it and compare what you saw. The impact these structures have had on marine life is astounding
