Who exactly gets contracted out to do the work? or does BP handle most of it in house? I know they are paying locals to help out... but it seems like there would be a huge company that specializes in this?? but maybe not?

Shaw is bidding the work...nothing has been awarded just yet. As of now, there is nothing to clean up.

And if Shaw gets it, all they will do it sub it out to companies like USES, ES&H, Oil Mop, Ampol, Oil Stop, PSC, PMI,

seems like these companies are highly specialized, and limited, so they would be mobilized one way or the another... regardless of who gets the contract?

do these companies also manufacture the oil booms that are being used?

Clean Harbors is another company that will probably get a piece of the clean up. They were hear after Katrina along with US Environmental Services cleaning up the Murphy Oil Spill in St Bernard.

USES will definitely be working the clean up. The company I worked for at the time was contracted through them to help with the Murphy Oil spill.

how long does a contract like this take to be awarded? seems like the quicker the better?

Depends on the size of the contract. They will set an award date, but will probably get pushed back due to amendments being added. They also dont have to bid since it's not a gov contract, they can just hire whomever they want. But they will give different companies a shot at the work (BP that is)

Now if the Feds take over the clean up then there will be more red tape and more of a formal bidding process.

that is probably the worst things that could happen?
