Back to School as a 28 year old - Petroleum Engineering

Anyone have any thoughts/advice on this?
I'm currently working in the industry at a small private company that is willing to be flexible and seems supportive of the idea.
Undergrad in Econ(stop laughing).
I would not necessarily be working as an engineer once I graduate, but obviously it would help my understanding of the industry in general. ( I want to broaden my field of expertise)
I am financially stable and the tuition wouldn't be a problem.
TIA

Go for it. You can never stop learning.
I went back to school for my degree at 28.

In how many years could you do it? Have you looked into it? Will any of your prior college credits apply?

I just applied today, so I'm waiting to hear about the credits and how long it will take.
The only thing i'm nervous about is being "rusty" from not being in school for 7 years. But I think I can make up for that since i'm exponentially more mature and will study a lot harder than when I was in undergrad the first time.
ETA: I'll bump this when I hear about time from, but thanks for the encouragement guys.

You should brush up on your math and chemistry. I'm graduating next May in CE, and my bro is a freshman. I can barely answer his questions from his Calc 1 and Chem 1 classes
But go for it if you want it.

I graduated in PE in December and think it'd be a great idea. We had 13 people graduate with us and everyone is working now and everyone gets paid well. I am making right around 8k a month and that is just while I am in training. School takes a minimum of 4 years and there is no way around it due to prereqs. If you are get in Physics and Calculus you will not have a problem. But, if you struggle in those it will be very difficult no matter how much you study. Good luck and I hope you do it.

Don't worry about being rusty. My industry slowed down and I got an Environmental Science degree at age 48 (first degree - ChE). There was no rust factor and I enjoyed doing it. The maturity/motivation factor more than makes up for any rust.

I work for a smaller service company. I work out of Broussard right now but I'll be in either Houston or Covington when I finish training.

Where do you work out of? Did you graduate with Tara or the year before that? I was always playing golf instead of studying. I played alot with Adam B if you know him, I think he graduated about 2 or 3 years ago?

Graduating in May in CE. As long as you take the time to study it shouldn't be too difficult. Good Luck

How much are you going to be working as you go back to school?

I am in a management role right now, so some of my daily stuff can be passed down the line. My boss is an engineer from Tech, and says he will give me enough time to really get into the curriculum. I would hope I could get around 25 hours per week at work. I really wont know until I see how many hours I need to take per semester to graduate in a reasonable amount of time. I could also study at work while things are slow($4 gas).

Well, just realize that some of the early weed out classes are "time killers". For instance, Calculus I is a 5 hour course at LSU and you will probably be taking Physics 2101, a 3 hour course, at the same time. I would imagine working 25 hours a week while taking just those two classes alone, would put you on a pretty tight schedule.
Getting past those early Math and Physics classes will be the biggest hurdle, especially if your foundation for math and science is rusty. However, your math skills must be fairly good since you are an Econ major.
Good luck.
