Story about him in this morning's paper here in Dallas. LINK
"Lee, meanwhile, is 9-0 with a 2.42 ERA and 73 strikeouts. On Tuesday, against Frisco Centennial, he was particularly masterful. His fastball climbed to 94 miles per hour and his curveball danced in and out of the strike zone."

No doubt. Unless he really wants to be an ace pitcher and quarterback, at the same time, at a major college program.
Who was the last to do this? Wasn't there a guy for Stanford that did this a few years back?

I love when people say "he's as good as gone".

+1.
I don't think we will see him playing for LSU at all.

Obviously, there is a chance he would make it here, but do you see him not getting drafted in the first 5 rounds?
If he is throwing like that now, I could definately see a team grabbing him quickly.
Hopefully the Pirates or Yanks don't get him.

I do think he is drafted in the first 5 rounds, but with a fb scholarship = a higher signing bonus to get him away from college. I'm not getting my hopes up with Lee and never have, however we need to let this play out.

I wouldn't blame him at all.

Also people don't remember, but Anthony Ranaudo in the 2007 draft was actually called by two teams in the 2nd and 3rd round respectively and turned down what they had hoped would sign him which in turn is why he fell to the 11th round.

I wonder where Ranaudo is projected this year.

The only way he comes out ahead by going to m.l.b. early is if he winds up injured in college.
I really don't know why kids with this ability choose to take the early money. A million dollars today isn't what it used to be. it's a lot of money but not enough to set up an 18 year old for the rest of his life. you can get a Million insurance policy to protect yourself these days.
If he go's to college he has a chance to see which sport he excell's at. let's say it's baseball, in three years he could still be a high draft pick but sign for a lot more money than now.
if it's football, well, a first round pick in football makes a heck of a lot more money than a first round baseball pick. we are talking a minimum of 5 mil garanteed vs 1 million. A top 10 pick is 20 mil.
Since he is very good at both, i don't see why you throw one sport away at such a young age. Jared mitchell did it right. Josh booty did it wrong. Mitchell played both, excelled at baseball and got first round draft money. Booty chose baseball over football. didn't succeed and his football career was damaged because of it.

Anywhere from 5-20 in the first round.

I'd go and play for a few years and if I didn't pan out go back to college. Worked out well for Matt Mauck and Chris Weinke.

I've said since the beginning there is very little chance he ends up here. He's a Top 5 round prospect.

I do have a few questions. First, what is his competition like? Because 2.42 ERA is solid, but if he's got a 2.42 ERA in high school it's gonna be a ton higher in pros. Also, 73 strikeouts (11 of which came in that complete game) is good once again, but again it's high school baseball. And also that article is very pro McKinney, so who knows if it was really 94 mph. One of my best friends coming out of HS they were saying he was throwing 93-95...realistically is was 89-92. He got drafted in the 2nd round, but the difference between the two is absolutely huge.

I don't know the teams specfically, but normally the Dallas area turns out great baseball talent.
I made a post about what you are talking about a couple weeks ago concerning Aaron Nola and some of his teammates. A poster was talking about parents who were mentioning how fast their son or relative was throwing. This article hopefully was accurate and not taking the 94mph from word of mouth.
Scouts are now taught not to take ANYONE's word for it including a coaches, because we all know we don't brag about benching 225lbs when 3 months ago we were benching 250lbs. I don't know if there was for sure a radar gun at his game but the highest I have Lee on his fastball which is "recorded on paper and video" was 91mph.

Buddy of mine is a local scout for one of the Big League teams and said Zach Lee is prolly gonna get taken in the 3rd to 5th round
