UNC neutral site - they seem on the verge of a breakthrough, LSU needs to take care of business, loss would not be end of the world but very disappointing

@ Vandy - depending on how UNC game goes, could be the ulimate trap game and based on Miles comments last year about Vandy offense, they will be ready - would be a devastating loss and would place Miles on the dead man walking list

MSU - would be major disappointment if loss in home opener - still have a ton more talent than MSU and MSU will be lucky to be any better than last year with talent lost from last year's team

West Va - a very winnable game at home, would be a bad loss before starting meat of SEC schedule

Tenn - LSU has more talent and W is crucial to winning West

@ Florida - still has a ton of talent will be tough in Gainesville, LSU should put up respectable performance either way

McNeese State - no comment

ULM - no comment

@ Auburn - should be a win but weird things happen in this series, still a young team even with talented recruiting class coming in

Bama - restless fans and more fuel to the fire if another loss to Saban

@ Ark - this game will be another shootout and flip a coin, it has gone either way lately

Ole Miss - significant personnel losses, must win in West

The only game in which the opposition has as much talent + experience as we do is Alabama. Florida has as much talent, but we have the edge on experience. Arkansas has experience and a WAY better QB but overall we have better talent.

I see lsu going 10-2 this year. the only game i can really pick them to lose is Bama.

Only Arkansas and Bama will have a more proven qb.

Florida is very talented. however, the loss of tebow and a new defensive staff makes me feel they take a step back. They weren't overly dominate last year with only losing harvin.

unc i see as a clemson in the past years. that acc team with good talent looking to make a break through but doesn't.

ole miss lost to much, mccluster, jerry, hardy, sneed, et al. we were a brain fart away from victory on their home turf with those guys.

tenn, all new coaching staff, crompton gone, their best two rb's are gone and their all american safety.

au and arkansas is an enigma. both return their coaching staff's. Can arkansas improve their poor defense? how are they as the hunted? Au, is their qb brent schaffer or ryan mallet? (great talent that transfers/takes juco route back to big boy ball, one a bad season, one a good season, which one is he?)

lsu is one of the few teams i see in the sec looking to have improved upon their weakness. should have an improved o-line, improved running game, returns their starting qb, stability in their coaching, solid defense and strong special teams. overall they should be improved. I can't say that about many other sec teams.

We only lost Anthony Dixon and the worst of our starting Offensive linemen. We return 9 on offense and 9 on Defense. I know Dixon is going to be hard to replace, but I dont think that we lost much other than him, plus our passing game will be much better with Relf and Russell at QB. And also if you dont know much about Relf ask Ole Miss about him.

Still dont think we beat you guys in Tiger Stadium but it will be a close game.

What relevance does Clemson have to North Carolina? That they're both in the same conference? Duke and Virginia Tech are in that conference, too. So what?
quote:

Unproven > proven bad.
quote:

ole miss lost to much, mccluster, jerry, hardy, sneed, et al. we were a brain fart away from victory on their home turf with those guys.

Unfortunately, the same brain is still farting for us.
quote:

tenn, all new coaching staff, crompton gone, their best two rb's are gone and their all american safety.

Do they have as much as a crippled Louisiana Tech? The head of that "all new coaching staff" almost beat us with them last year.
quote:

lsu is one of the few teams i see in the sec looking to have improved upon their weakness.

We kept the same OC and have the same QB that we had last year, plus we replace most of the OL and RBs, along with our best receiver. Or was offense not our weakness last year? Just to be on the safe side, we lose just as much of our defense, too. What is improved?
quote:

should have an improved o-line,

Same OL coach, but now with players who couldn't crack the starting lineup for the worst OL in the SEC last year. How is this going to improve?
quote:

improved running game,

Not without significant improvement from the OC, QB and OL. Where is it?
quote:

returns their starting qb

They used to make a joke about Vanderbilt. The good news is, we return most of our starters from last year. The bad news is, we return most of our starters from last year.
quote:

stability in their coaching

An OC on the verge of being fired, a cumbersome, undefined role as "passing game coordinator" for a guy who coached an option team in his last job, a TE coach who is somehow supposed to find time to coach our QBs, too? That's stable? Who is in charge? Who's going to be the one to say "WTF!?" when Crowton calls another idiotic play in a crucial situation that runs out the clock, results in a sack to put us out of FG range, etc.?
quote:

solid defense

Assuming the new starters are as good as the ones we lost, then yes, that's about the best you can say about our team. We have a "solid" defense. Not spectacular, not great, with a frustrating tendency to give up conversions on third and long or bend/break and give up a crucial late score (Alabama, Ole Miss, Penn State, Arkansas, Georgia), but "solid" enough not to give up 40-50 points to really good offenses. And that's what has to make up for one of the worst offenses in the country and a coach who is infamous for blunders in critical situations.
quote:

strong special teams

Probably, but the return game is yet to be seen.
quote:

overall they should be improved. I can't say that about many other sec teams.

Based on the evidence that you are willing to rely on to say it about LSU, you could say it about practically any team.

It would be an unpleasant surprise if we aren't at least 3-1 through this stretch. 4-0 is plausible.

This stretch has one sure loss (Florida) and two tossups (Auburn, Tenn). We would have to be lucky to be better than 2-2 through these four games. That puts us at 6-2 or 5-3 heading into...

Bama

ULM

Ole Miss

@ Ark

This is where have failed in the last two years. A combined 1-5 vs. Bama, UM and Arkie, plus lackluster performances against supposed cupcakes similar to ULM. Bama is, of course, unwinnable again, and there's no reason to think we play any better against Ole Miss or Arkie than we have the last two years when we just mailed it in after failing against Alabama. We would have to be extremely lucky to go 2-2 in these four games. 1-3 is more likely.

That leaves us at 8-4 if we're extremely lucky and manage to win all of the first four and two of the last four, 7-5 if we only do one of those, and 6-6 if we don't do either of them.

I just don't see how we can avoid having the UNC game decide whether we finish 7-5 or 6-6.

Which team will we see in 2010 season?

Worst case - LSU 4-8 with nightmare losses to UNC, WV, UT, Fl, UA, AR, UM, AU (beat Vandy in OT by a fg). Serious search for CLM's successor begins after Bama blowout. Positigers all convert to Negatiger status.

Best Case - 10-2, close losses to UA and UF, LSU starts looking and playing like LSU again. BCS Bowl invite. CLM gets contract extension, bonus. Negatigers banned forever from the Rant.

Only two SEC teams can go to BCS bowls. How do we go ahead of either UF or Bama?

7-5 losses to bama (defense will be good again this year), UNC (defense will be good again this year, if not our O will still suck), Arky (we will not beat this team with the talent they have on O), FLA (I spoke with a DB that transferred to OK state (PP's teammate in HS and he said that Brantly was better than TT last year and most guys wanted him to play more), either WV or pissing it away to ole piss - typical one loss each year due to poor execution and team giving up.

sorry about being negative...

Florida's passing game will improve but saying their offense will be better is a stretch. other teams defense's won't fear the spread option much anymore and can concentrate on playing the receivers and not have to keep an eye on the backfield. Florida is losing a big dimension in their offense and will need to find a way to convert 3rd and shorts

UNC neutral site - Not to disrespect UNC because they will have 'a want' to beat us. Not going to happen - We will put an 07' VT style beat down on them. W

@ Vandy - Reminded of last year's close one LSU hits the gas early and often. W

MSU - No let down for Tigers, Bulldogs muzzled. W

West Va - With only NDevine to stop LSU loads the box and destroys the WVU running game. W

Tenn - Dooley get's the boys up for a big one but it will not be enough. LSU's talent wins out but it might be closer than we like. w

@ Florida - LSU, realizing that this is the season benchmark, win and it's all there; lose and it's dejavu all over again. Tiger's drain the swamp. W

McNeese State - W

@ Auburn - It's Auburn, It'll be close and crazy. W

Bama - At 8-0 going in LSU will be in the top-5 and Bama will still be No.1 - The win will catapult the Tigers into the driver's seat for the National Title and Les Miles will become the front-runner for COTY. The Rant will Implode from positivity and the Nega-Tigers will disappear only to be replaced with a bunch of 'new' posters who will claim they always knew Les was the man. W

ULM - W Saban’s gone, this one’s safe!

Ole Miss - With the "Ole Miss Debacle" prominently replayed every 15 minutes on ESPN and every other post on the Rant for weeks leading up to this one Les will angrily lead the Tigers to a Nutt cracking beat down. W

After the game ESPN will lead with a return of the “Mad Hatter” Montauge that basically proclaims him the COTY, an award he will ultimately win and the Rant will be wondering if Les could help Trent Johnson in the off-season.

@ Ark - Mallet will have flopped by now and the hype around 7-4 Razorbacks will have faded, as will the recent run of good fortune they have had against the Tigers. BLOWOUT W

SECCG v South Carolina – The Ole Ball Coach will attempt a fake field goal early in an attempt to get his mojo back (since Miles took it from him with the behind the backer in 07) but it back-fires and we take it the other way. From that point the Tigers smoke the GameCocks and it does indeed taste like chicken! W

BCSNCG v OSU – Been there, done that. Song remains the same! W

Geaux Tigers!!!

Gotta disagree on this one and go with the Dawg fan.

State should be among the more improved teams in the SEC. Great OL/DL's. And I expect Mullen to put together something productive on O.

Still think we win but the gap is much closer than anytime recent.

I agree with you. Things won't get better until Miles leaves. I have no faith in him anymore. He did a great job in '05 & '06, lucky in '07, totally sapped me of my belief in him in '08 & '09.

It's not so much the losses, but the way the team is playing & the lack adjustments. They're unorganized & keep making the same mistakes.

I hope you prove me wrong Leslie.
