Plaquemines Parish eatery - last in Louisiana....

Drove down Plaq parish yesterday. Literally went to the end of the road. Ate at the last eatery in the parish. Forgot the name of it - but it was pretty good. I asked them if they considered themselves to be the first or the last restaurant in La. They laughed and said "last". I asked them what was south of there - they said "water".
Three issues, two of which I know nothing about.
Why build a high school in the south part of Plaq Parish? Is there a way to build a building that survives 3 feet of water and 100mph winds and not end up costing the taxpayers alot more money than just building it 15 miles further north? i assume they will build it up maybe 5-10 feet?
Quite a few nice homes. But some (again) are being built practically at ground level (not raised). Do people just take the risk or does insurance pay them everytime the parish goes under 10 feet of water?
Third issue - alot of mulberry trees with ripe mulberries right next to the road. What a waste.

S. Plaquemines is a terrific school. There was one further south in Buras. They rebuilt because it is prohibitive to bus everyone to Belle Chasse. Plus, students have the right to a free education in the least restrictive environment.
Your logic would say we shouldn't build new schools in N.O.

Just to let you know. That white building eight feet in the air known today as Boothville Elementary School survived the storm. It was built after Camille, so I guess it's possible to build a storm resistant school.
ALSO, those kids deserve a school, would you allow your child to be on a school bus for no less than a 1hr. 30 min commute, one way, before the bus even starts stopping to allow students on or off? Would you really condone bussing 400 students for over 4 hours a day?
That's insane!

I was actually asking if it was possible to build a school that didnt have to be rebuilt every major hurricane. I could have worded it better I guess. Based on the answers I guess its possible. How high is the new proposed one way down in the south part of south plaq, 30 feet from the gulf, going to be built up?
No, I didnt know there was one in the Venice Mariana. So I guess it wasnt the last one afterall. Is that one opento the gen public??

Actually the most important part of the issue is why yall are letting the mulberries go to waste.

Camille 1969
Kartina 2005
Reasonably time period to provide a school.

The dude fails to realize that real, hgardworking people live in Plaquemines. It isn't a resort area, it isn't New Orleans. It is, quite simply, one of the most unique places in the USA. I am glad that he enjoyed his weekend foray into the area, and I hope he goes back.
Again....terrific schools in Plaquemines...real community schools.

Hey Glassman, what about Betsy? I was living in New Orleans at the time and Plaquemines and St. Bernard were hit extremely hard. I remember reports of dead bodies tied to trees and gators eating them. The damage from Betsy was high. Camille just brushed us. It was heading straight towards NO and at the last minute, it veered east. Mississippi got it instead of us.

Dang, must be some rich Croatians down there. I thought most of them lived in New York.
So I did eat in the last eatery....good.

Actually, I love it everytime I go down there. Just some questions concerning why more of the houses, etc. are not built sky high. The people were great! Mulberries also great.
