Has anyone read this article on Phelon Jones? I can't remember if he transferred before or after we got Cooper from South Carolina because it looks like he's saying he didn't learn much at LSU.
quote:

"He told me, 'Daddy, in the short time I've been here under Coach Saban, I'm twice the football player I was before I got here,' " Tony Jones said.

Germans... but I think it was on the SEC rant so you get a pass... His dad was talking all kind of shite I think.

Thanks for the pass Big Fat! Just hate to see that kind of talk. Who would want to give a release to a kid to go and play for the strongest competition? Jones' dad is lucky that he got Miles to give him the release to Alabama at all. You think Saban would've done the same? No way in hell.

It was on the Rant as well. And I'm pretty sure he had already transferred when Cooper got here. Or had let it be known he was leaving, but maybe was in school that spring.

That article got blown way out of proportion on the SEC Rant. He played in '08 some and looked completely lost most of the time. He fell victim to the bullshite co-coordinator debacle.

Phelon is dating my neighbor, and a couple of days ago I saw that he got a brand new black camaro. He better play good for us if we are giving him that kind of shite.

If I remember correctly, Saban said he hadnt learned much at LSU. (and then explained it was because he was on scout team and not part of the regular defense at practices, etc). Not sure if Saban meant to take a shot at LSUs staff or not..

Camaro usually means a starter so he needs to step up for you guys. Reserve players get a truck or suv at bammer.

I still wonder how good he is, maybe it was coaching, maybe not. Brandon Taylor beat him out in fall camp in 08, despite Phelon having a year in the system. Then I kept wishing he'd take the nickel spot from McCray, or at least split it the way McCray and Francis did, but it never happened. He played well against Troy once we started making the comeback though.

His biggest issue is that as a grown man he still refers to his father as "Daddy".

Phelon Jones needs to be thanking Miles, not many coaches would have let him walk to a SEC West rival.

When players start making comments like that, I'm willing to bet he's not starting for the Tide and he'll fade into further irrelevance.

He had as long under pelini as he did saban. pelini isn't considered chopped liver. so, is it the coaching or is it the kid?

these kind of articles are classless. anyone who has to take shots at their former team/coaches says a lot about them.

i like the crowing coming out of bama from their coaches, media, players ect. karma has a way of working these types of things out over time.

Seems to be a reoccurring theme with these Alabama kids. Rivals likes to overrate them to hell.

wtf business is it of yours what he calls his father? let's see...we have spell police...we have grammar police...and now we have father-son nomenclature police.

this guy had to play under peveto/mallory for the seaosn they were in charge. of course the coaching is going to be better. that being said saban is a master in terms of developing defensive talent, and i'm pretty confident phelon is indeed better there than he was here.

Bama can have him, I don't want our players calling anyone Daddy. Sounds like some sissy shite to me.

It appears that Tony Jones likes to run his mouth. Compare these with his quotes when NS put the full court press on Phelon at the last minute in 07, and you'll see a complete 180. My theory is that Tony became persona non grata after the he called into question Saban's ego, and now he's making up for lost time.

I'm sure Phelon has improved, as DB's are Saban's specialty. Knowing this, I was uncomfortable with the decision to release him to an SEC West foe, especially Bama. We'll see if it bites us in the arse.
