Nothing against Hawthorne

but during the broadcast last night in the second inning did I hear him say, "runners on second and third down. Did anybody else hear that??

no. but i did hear him announce the score as 9-8 when it was 10-4. he was so close.

Actually, it was "runners on second and third now." But the 'n' of "now" got piggy-backed onto the 'd' of "third."
