My point exactly. Women's basketball is NOT more popular than baseball in a general sense. It's a comment about college sports attendance in an attempt to justify the terrible product provided by women's basketball. And although on a national basis women's basketball probably does have a higher attendance than baseball, it does not prove that women's basketball is fun to watch.
It's convenient to pick baseball as the primary comparison statistic rather than men's basketball or football because baseball's popularity suffers due to the Northern weather. Therefore, only geographically will women's basketball be more popular than baseball.
In any case, this is an LSU sports board and noone is going to convince an LSU fan that LSU women's basketball is more popular than LSU baseball.

I dont buy into the women's college basketball being more popular. If you take the schools that had success in baseball and women's basketball then the baseball wins every time. You think unc cares about womens basketball more than baseball? You think tiger nation cares about women's bball over baseball? But when you take a look at teams like tenn and uconn i bet more people do care about women's basketball. Just saying it depends on the school. Kind of like kentucky can brag about basketball in a football dominated conference and i dont really give a shite.

You be the judge...
UNC women's hoops attendance for the year just completed: 18 games, 3002 average, for a team that had an "off" year, for them...
UNC baseball attendance for the current year: 26 dates, 1497 average, for a team that has been to 4 straight CWS and is playing in a brand new ballpark.

I will give you a couple more things...
UNC Men's Lacrosse: Current season attendance: 5 games, 2103 average.
Virginia is another CWS team from last year.
Women's basketball attendance this year: 17 games , 3853 average.
Baseball attendance this year so far: 19 dates, 2330 average.

Well, it is not fun for YOU to watch, but all over the country people are attending women's basketball games, so SOMEONE must like it.

no way uconn should have won when stanford was winning by 9.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was watching and Stanford went just 10 seconds short of 5 minutes into the second half with no points. UConn was 6 of something like 35 in the first half; they had to start shooting a better percentage at some point and did. Stanford scored 27 in the 2nd half which was more than their 20 first half points but UConn turned it on and started hitting their shots; that was the difference.

ACC is conveniently a BASKETBALL CONFERENCE.
2009 SEC Statistics
Women's BBall - 3818 average
Baseball - 4573 average
Same schools.
In addition, the baseball stadiums have a smaller seating capacity than the basketball arenas.

The ballpark seats about 4000. If they can only pull 1497 a game, that tells me people in NC don't give a frick about college baseball.

Well let's play the statistics game.
UNC Dean Smith Center - 21750 capacity, 3002 attendance = 13.8%
UNC Boshamer Stadium - 4100 capacity, 1497 attendance = 36.5%
Like I said. ACC is basketball.
You refuse to acknowledge that in the SEC baseball is more popular than women's bball.
And while we're at it... let's make an apples to apples comparison.
WBBall NCAA championship rating = 3.0
Mens BBall NCAA championship rating = 16.0
Noone gives a shite about women's basketball.

LSU Spring game - 22500
LSU Baseball game - 9596, max capacity 10150
LSU women's game - 3383, max capacity 13472
Beside all that. Just compare the CWS championship games versus the Women's NCAA championship game. If you for one moment think it was more fun to watch women shoot under 25% from the field than the 3 game series with Texas, then you've lost your mind.

Your arguments are stupid, especially as it regards to the capacity of the arena, but I will play. UNC's women do NOT play at the Dean Dome...they play at old Carmichael Arena, which seats about 9000, which means they actually play to about 33% capacity. Ignorant argument, but lets get facts straight.

Why cherry-pick individual schools to help prove your point? On average, the SEC statistics show baseball attedance > wbball.
The bottom line is, you are trying to make the point that women's basketball is a popluar sport. It is not. It's merely the most popular women's sport. It doesn't even come close to competing with men's basketball, which is an accurate comparison and why I posted the dramatic differences in viewer ratings.
You chose baseball as a yard-stick for comparison because it's one of the lowest attendance men's sports. How is this supposed to prove the popularity of women's bball? Neither one is very popular nationally.
I'll concede that women's basketball is more popular than baseball around the country with the exception of LSU and the SEC. Now what has that done for you? Nothing. Watching women play basketball is still the modern day sports equivalent to Chinese water torture.
Enjoy your torture. I'll be tailgating at the Tulane game.
