so after seeing this butler team, which lsu beat in the opening round last year, make a run to the final game, does it piss you off even more as an lsu hoops fan?

this is essentially the exact same team that the tigers beat last year, but because of the total frickJOB given to the tigers by the ncaa selection committee, the tigers got unc in the second round. i fully believe had the tigers been given a 6 seed or a 5 seed, lsu is in the final four. its a shame we didnt get to prove ourselves a little more, instead of having to play the national champs, and being ahead of them at the under 8 timeout

thoughts?

Yeah ronald. I was pretty upset with our draw last year. We should have been atleast a 6 IMO. It was a great run though.

We got shafted, sure... we were at least an Elite Eight Team.. but there's no use to beat the issue to death. What's done is done. I can take comfort that we gave UNC the best game they had in the entire tournament.

Needless to say, that is what happens when you drop 3 of your last 4 games before the tournament. At least 2 of those losses were not good. Our resume before that skid did not give us any room for any significant error. I'm not saying that we deserved the 8 seed, but you have to think about these factors:

The strength of our conference that year.
The strength of LSU's schedule that year.
The # of quality of wins LSU had in the reg. season that year.
The # of bad losses LSU had in the reg. season that year.

All of those things still factor in, even if you are a lock for the tournament. Still did not like our seeding that year, but still was something to think about.

Sure Ron. It's been said numerous times in the last year but it's quite likely that a 5,6 or 7 seed(Which were deserved)could have catapulted TJ's very strong team deep into the tournament. Oddly enough it could also have helped out Butler. Any of the other #8 seeds in the tournament probably lose to the Bulldogs.

Yes it sucks looking back. But this is the exact line of thinking that makes people think we need a 96 team tournament and reseeding. All of the what ifs. the bottom line is the best team won in the end. It doenst matter when the "second best team" was eliminated.

a bigger question is how does a school like Butler out recruit most of the SEC?

to me its simple butler finds hidden gyms in high school develop them over 4 years get really really good then don't be as good the next year

this is how college basketball works

there are two type of good teams

teams who get players who want to go to NBA right away but rules don't let them so they play a year at a top notch university then go to the NBA

then you got the teams who are bad one year recruit a few decent players would never make it at places like UNC DUKE KENTUCKY right out of high school go to a small school develop into a great player in 4 years.

thats why Butler is out playing us

what's funny is yesterday i looked at the box score of that game and totally forgot about how huge marcus thornton was. i knew he went off but i forgot he had scored 30 points, i thought it was more like 22. i thought we were screwed when tas got called for his fourth foul but MT5 took over. temple and CJ hit some big free throws to seal the win. i still say we should have been the 6th seed in the south.

Even as a #5 or #6, we would have had to get through a #1 to get to the Final Four. Assuming we were #5 or #6 in the same region we were in, we still would have faced UNC a round or two later.
