For some reason

The Memphis Tigers will play LSU in basketball next year in Tupelo, Memphis Athletic Director R.C. Johnson told Sports 56 WHBQ radio station.

Previous reports had said the game would take place at the BancorpSouth Arena.

Some final contract details are being worked out, but the game will take place sometime in November, Memphis Assistant Media Relations Director Lamar Chance said.

Officials at the BancorpSouth Arena couldn't be reached for comment.

Said they wanted a neutral site game, but Tupelo is only 100 something miles from Memphis.

yeah and not to mention you're in freaking Tupelo! i think lsu fans would rather drive that extra 100 miles and at least be in a city they could have fun in.

Yeah, that's about as NOT neutral as it gets. Jackson would make A LOT more sense...

Just go ahead and play it at the FedEx Forum if it's going to be that close to Memphis.

Only bad part about playing in Jackson is I don't think they can sell beer there due to some dumb state law, but Bancorpsouth Arena does sell it.

I'm sure the 3-4 fans that actually do follow the team on the road won't mind.

I can tell ya that the FedEx Forum is a really nice place. As for Tupelo it would make more sense to bring MSU or Ole Miss back.

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- WTVA.com has confirmed the Memphis Tigers and LSU Tigers will play a basketball game in Tupelo this November. Officials with the BancorpSouth Arena confirm the game will be played on Sunday, November 21. The time of the game has not been set. Basketball games played on neutral sites are increasing in popularity because it helps teams in their Rating Percentage Index or RPI. The RPI is used in the process of selecting teams for the NCAA Tournament.

I can see doing it to help your RPI, but why not do it for a team that had a better record the previous season than LSU?

I've lived in Tupelo for 5 years and can honestly say this will by far be the coolest thing that ever happened here.

SO...if they can sell beer, in the arena, or you can "par-tay in the host town," it makes the whole thing more worthwhile?

Sheeeeeeesh...............

Who is agreeing for LSU MBB to play Memphis, MEMPHIS, in Tupelo Mississippi?

Is Verge scheduling MBB too?

Sure sounds like it....

What difference does it make? Only about 20-30 LSU fans travel to out of town basketball games anyway. It's not like we are good road fans. And, yes, I go to MSU and Ole Miss so I know how few fans we have at these games.
