Looks like a nice addition.
WD needs a small high-end grocery store. Whoever opens it up, assuming it is centrally located, will make good money.

just a small halfway decent grocery store is sorely needed, and it would make a fortune....and increase the convenience of the area a great deal.

There was one supposed to open around here by the Cottonmill I think but nothing ever gets going on the lot.

No doubt. Diamond Street was a small market, which is why I brought it up. (It was crappy though.) If a place had the necessities, good meats/cheeses/produce, good prepared foods and good wine/beer/liquor, it would kill it. 3-4k square feet would probably do it. There are thousands of people with some coin in their pockets living in the area.

what is the name of that little crappy convenience store in the WHD? don't remember the cross streets, on a corner, middle eastern owner, and the prices range from high to to criminal depending on the day. Want to say it's maybe on Camp or Magazine on the lake side of the street going towards downtown.

100% agreed. Is the hell-hole WalMart on Annunciation the closest grocery store? I can't think of another one. Not that's really far, but you need it to be walkable to really tie the area down, for sure.

The only other thing is the Farmer's market. Tough to restrict your shopping (time-wise) like that though.

Yep, you still need car, and the lack of a grocery store is the only real reason.
Can easily live in the FQ sans car.

I guess it depends on what you're comparing it to. Obviously, its not Manhattan (nothing is), but its definitely one of the better "urban living" areas in this part of the country.

I think the WD is great, but the lack of a grocery store is its achilles heel. Tons of fantastic stuff in that area though.

Yep. Someone will make a move eventually. The price of real estate there for everything is so high, I think it necessitates someone with sufficient capital to pull it off (like Robert's or something) for it to be more than convenient-store sized.

it needs more cheap, quick or to-go, casual spots that are open at night and do not consist of bar food. If you live an area it's great to have the nice upper scale type places, but it's equally as important to be able to walk around the corner and grab a solid sandwich, salad, etc without having to "dine".
But, i would assume that will come...also, a grocery store could partially fill that need.

American Sector and Butcher have added to Ugly Dog.
It needs a coffee shop that serves food and stays open late like a puccinos, royal blend, rue...a grocery store...maybe a cinema...it just invites another element in though...
