It makes sense. The thinking is, if a team is good enough to get that far and has a lot of money too, then they could make themselves unbeatable if they go out and pick up all of the best players in free agency. All players want to play for a winner and bad teams wouldn't have a shot at getting better.

If Williams is healthy, he would do wonders for the run defense.

yeah not too concerned about that injury, hollis thomas recovered relatively quick and rejoined the team season before last with the same thing.

It's not a new rule that someone just decided to put in place. This, along with the jump in years of service to be a UFA and the uncapped year, were put into the old CBA to ensure that a new CBA would be in place by this time and there would be no chance of a lockout in 2011. Sadly, it didn't provide the expected result. This year could very well be an anomaly and everything reverts to business as usual in 2011, as long as everyone involved realizes just how damaging a lockout will be to the NFL.

Would be a great pickup! Would be the first piece of the puzzle to a top 10 defense

Sorry to get off on a tangent in my previous post, but I couldn't agree more. A lane-plugging, block-eating DT will make everyone else on the D that much better.

I hope Saints can come to terms. They need to throw the "we're a contender" card out there to make him want to come here more

This is the first FA DL that has been mentioned that has made me excited. If he's healthy, he's an instant upgrade to the run D, no doubt...and gives us a little flexibility with the first pick.

Step 1- get a good run stuffer (williams)

Step 2- trade a 3rd to the raiders for Kirk Morrison

Step 3- draft spoon or daryl washington

Step 4- draft a speed de in the later rounds

DE is a far more important position than LB. Waiting until later rounds to get one is a really bad idea, IMO.
