Draconian sanctions which limited recruiting from 1999 through 2001 impacted the program through at least 2003. Kedrick Brown electing to declare from the draft without playing for LSU was also devestating.

Actually in 2002 they were 6-10 in the SEC, but did beat Iowa in the NIT before losing to Ball State.

The 2003 team roared down the stretch after inserting Xavier Whipple into the lineup and moving Torris Bright to shooting guard.
