Well too bad players want money...damn...and we need some defensive help.

they don't even have to do that. Along with no salary cap there is no salary floor this year. with a $325K minimum salary for rookies and incrementally higher to $860K for 10yr+ vets you could theoretically have a team at a total payroll of $25-30mil vs. the 2009 floor which was about $107mil if I remember right.

Your absolutely right.
Signed, The Steelers
and don't give me that troy polamalu arguement. Even without him, following this thread's logic, they still should have made the playoffs.

It doesn't work like this.
Players get older. There's no way to fight this other than to draft/sign new talent to replace them.
Players get complacent. Some don't play as hard after they've had success or after they've been signed to a more expensive contract.
Players get expensive. We don't have unlimited money and some of those cheaper players are going to be looking for more.
Players get hurt. We did fine with a lot of bad injury luck this year, but next year it could be different injuries and our depth at those positions might not be as strong.
Players get big egos. While some may be satisfied with team success, others are going to want to head in places where they will be in the spotlight.
In addition, since we've won the Super Bowl, we are one of the teams to beat next year, and every single team, even the ones who aren't our schedule, are going to be looking at our weaknesses and how to exploit them.
There are a lot of variables in winning a Super Bowl, and you can't just field the same team and use the same playbook year after year and expect to have a dynasty, even if players didn't get older and never retired. You need a truly all-star cast on your team to repeat doing the same things you did last year. We don't have that. This team has weaknesses.
You need an excellent front office and coaching staff to win with a team that has weaknesses like ours does. I am confident that Loomis and Payton will address these issues.
Doing nothing would be the wrong thing to do. It would be too conservative. This organization is not conservative. Payton will do non-conventional things and go for the throat. He did it last year's offseason, he did it this season, he did it in the Super Bowl, and will do it again this year.

yeah, because complacency has always yeilded fantastic results.... 2007 anyone???
You NEVER sit back and keep the team you have witout addressing the deficiencies (which we certainly have; you're naive if you disagree). That is a recipe for one dream season followed by huge dissapointment.

yeah, let's not try and improve because there is obviously no room for improvement.

Umm Wake Up??? We need to do ABSOLUTLY nothing to this offense!! We have had the best offense in the league for the past few years! Last year when we went 8-8 Drew came 1 completion away from Setting the all time mark in passing yards. All you NFL G.M.'s on this site saying we should change everything are not quite right in the head. Our biggest flaw is defense. This is the only area that needs to be addressed unless we lose some high quality players on offense, like Reggie witch has'nt even happened yet so lets chill for a bit and pray we improve a little on Defense and we keep our Offensive unit intact!

Right, because the argument here is that one side wants to do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, while the other side wants to CHANGE EVERYTHING. You do realize that no one here is advocating CHANGING EVERYTHING, don't you? Are you that daft to not realize this? Come on now; don't be a putz

chill dude
we don't need to change a lot, but it would help to get younger/faster on defense
