LSU got off to a good start with a series sweep. What or who was the biggest surprise of opening weekend?
The LSU-Eunice transfers would be my answer I suppose.

Bourgeois played better than I thought he would, and then I'd have to say Gaudet

Definitely Joey Bourgeois IMO
Dude threw a 6 inning shutout with 7 K's. I had my doubts about him being a weekend SEC starter (well, still do, it was Centenary
) after his 5.90 ERA in JUCO last year, but so far he has impressed me.
Biggest disappointment (and yes I know it's way too early to judge batters, or anyone, but if I had to pick...) was Tyler Hanover. Only 2 hits (both being singles) a walk, HBP and 2 K's this weekend batting and only 1 RBI while getting thrown out on his only SBA from the 4-hole. We're going to need a lot more production out of him if he's going to be hitting 4th. No excuse for him to not do well with Gibbs backing him up.

Bourgeois
The troubles he had last year are very correctable. He has really good stuff, just needs to stay out of the fat part of the zone. Those are areas that a good pitching coach can have corrected easily. His control, as evidenced by his K to BB ratio and his BB to IP ratio last year, is good. Remember how hard Coleman got hit his first 2 years. Then he changes his arm slot and starts hitting corners and he becomes unhittable

Personally i'm really excited about Rittner. This years Matty Ott IMO
