That kid is gonna be a great player in the future. He has all the skills. Im not too familiar with his academics, but from a football perspective I think he would be a great pickup. I guess they are slow playing his offer because of the lack of major program interest at this point. I like the kid and hope to see him in purple and gold in the future. Just my 2 cents

Hope we don't wait around until it's too late like we did with Sentimore!

According to a live interview that I listened to the other night, Johnson said that his grades were good and he was set to take the ACT soon.

We need to offer and land:

Quinton Thomas
M. Johnson
& Hunter

Redshirt two of them and we are set for two years at the DT position having already landed the "Freak Johnson".

If the coaches pull another Sentimore...that will obviously be bad.

They have offered some out of state DTs, but I don't have much hope of LSU landing them (excluding Maiden). Geographically, the DTs offered and on Scouts list of prospects east of LA are very far away. Thus, for each Div. 1A program between that recruit's home and Baton Rouge, our chances of landing them go down.

That is not a problem with James Maiden -Woodville, Mississippi (50 or so miles north of Baton Rouge). Rivals has him listed as a DT. Scout, on the other hand, has him listed as an OT.

However, concerning Kevin McReynolds - Washington, District of Columbia there are at least 17 schools between Wash. DC and Baton Rouge.

Gabe Wright - Columbus, GA has 6 schools between Columbus and Baton Rouge. Scout lists him with an offer from LSU, but Rivals doesn't even have LSU on his list, much less an offer.

It looks like LSU is waiting on Quinton Thomas and possibly these three guys before they make an offer to M. Johnson and Hunter.

Or, they will offer Johnson and Hunter at one of LSU's Jr Days or after camp this summer. M. Johnson has already attended at least two of LSU's summer camps (per interview). Hunter has no record on Scout of ever attending an LSU camp.

What LSU is waiting on regarding Johnson when they have his film and have seen him live and in person, I don't know. Hunter is understandable that they want to see him at camp.

If neither is offered after attending camp this summer, then I'll be worried that we may have a Sentimore situation on our hands.

I agree, but it didnt stop them from offering Blackmon this year. And Im sure they have seen tons of footage and live games while recruiting Bates. I think he would be a big loss, but its still really early. And as long as we have Freak, Ill be ok

Yeah, I forgot that Bates went to St. Pauls too and played right beside Johnson. Thanks for reminding me...

Needless to say, with all that footage that they have seen of Johnson and with him coming to at least two LSU camps...I'm worried that M. Johnson may not get an offer. I really like the kid after hearing him interviewed last week.

Oh, well. I have not seen any of his film, so I'll have to trust the coaches' judgment as always.

Mickey still expects an offer from LSU. He is not leaning LSU however. He will take his time with his process. He is a Louisiana kid but not native. He likely won't commit until after his senior season.

Hard to believe after going to all the camps and junior day. As Miles would say, " He has a real want to be a tiger". you are more in the know than me, so Ill take your word for it. Not being offered yet scares me. Either he is missing something or we have bigger fish to fry. Your thoughts?

You know, I don't doubt the veracity of what you are saying because I heard your interview with him last week. You are spot on in reporting what the kid said.

However, I am suspecting, without any proof of course, that M. Johnson would jump on an LSU offer if presented to him.

Why do I say that? He has been to at least two LSU camps, is planning on attending another this summer, and now Jr. Day...with another Jr. Day coming up at the Spring Game in March. And, still no offer.

So why is Johnson spending all this time at LSU if he doesn’t want to commit? Well, he just might want an offer and then continue to look. And, he gets to be taught by college coaches, improve is technique, and practice against some of the best in the region at the camps. That is all true. But, his only offers are MS State, Tulane, and Tulsa…Which is not that impressive for a DT of his size, weight, and strength as a Jr. in H.S.

But, I can't help but speculate that the kid will commit on the spot if offered and the coaches know it. Thus, Miles and Co. want to test the out of state DT prospect waters for a few months and see if they can land a whale (including Q. Thomas) before offering M. Johnson and Hunter.

I know it’s a shot in dark, speculation, a gut feeling, and mere guess, but that is what I am thinking.

He just received a writen offer from Tenn. too. Once Mickey hits the circuit his offers will increase for sure. You heard it Sonny, 440 bench 720 squat. His coaches say a sub 5 forty and he has a nastiness to him. I would think come July he will be looking at 15-20 offers and one from LSU to boot. I like this kid a lot.

Well UTenn is impressive...

Another thing that your interview brought out was a solid family background, excellent character traits, and humility.

That's a striking contrast to Ryan Perrilloux. I'm sure you remember all of his pious comments and arrogance during recruiting and signing day. You know the rest of the story...next came trouble.

I was thinking today that Miles has been shying away from that type of kid ever since. And, that may be why we did not offer Sentimore sooner and Lacy at all. They "may" have shared some tendencies with Perrilloux!

Miles seems to place much more emphasis on character since the Perrilloux fiasco.

Did you get that impression of M. Johnson? That he does have great character?

Not a Perriloux for sure. I think that the coaches know Johnson will jump on the offer as soon as it is offered. There fore they are testing the waters with oos guys to see what may be knowing that if the offer comes Johnson is all LSU. I think he is as good as anyone out there and wants to be a tiger. I say take him before Tenn or someone else sways him.
