Its about a cost benefit analysis. Do we spend more than any of the teams ahead of us? SIn't our coach one of the highest paid in the country? Then I'd say we are spending too much money on an inferior product. Oh and before you say, but Miles isn't paid by the state...doesn't matter, is he one of the highest paid coaches in the country? Where does our staff payroll rank? Facilities costs, etc? If those costs are higher than our ranking, than the cost benefit analysis is not in our favor, and yes we are in mediocrity. Especially if there are programs that invest FAR less and get MUCH more out.

"It" is about a whole lot more than a c.b.a. Integrity, loyalty and due diligence are factors in whether you're getting your money's worth from a program. There are programs currently ranked above and below LSU that spend more money and there are a few in the current rankings that spend less. There are none in the BCS conferences that won over 50 games the last 5 seasons, including a national title, that spend less by the way. And it goes without saying, using the same criteria, that there are no BCS schools that have done more than LSU has done the past 5 seasons by investing "FAR less" as you implied. A couple of seasons where the results were exacerbated by the great successes just prior do not create mediocrity with a ranking of 16 in my book. We agree to disagree on that point.

fair enough, but what about those programs that are comparable to us. Are they doing better or worse in the polls. There are 3, yes 3 SEC schools ranked higher than us in that article. I know Arkansas doesn't spend that much, and you would agree that FL and ALA are comparable...right? So why the disparity? Why the disconnect? It's obviously not because we are doing "great".

I'll also throw out that Boise has done well for a number of years now, and they are significantly less and do more than us. Their ranking may not reflect, but damn they do REALLY well with what they have.

Mark Schlabach's early top 25..

Sucks.

I can't disagree enough with just about the entire thing, and I'm growing more and more confused in regards to how exactly these "people" are supposed experts in their fields.

If they knew what they were talking about they would not have to change the polls every week. Teams would start and finish in the same spot. They would not even have to play any games.
