Last year was Trent's first full class

Not really. Once again, I know YOU at least understand basketball recruiting. You don't put together a class in less than a year's time generally (understandably there are exceptions). You build relationships generally with these kids in basketball early on high school. We're seeing Trent building these relationships with these 2010 guys for a couple years while at LSU now and we're seeing the benefits of that. He's forced to recruit outside of LA a great bit once again but he had the time to recruit nationally and look what he's done.

Also, 2009 was one of the worst years for LA talent. I don't think there was a single Top 150 player in the state, so he couldn't just fall back on some local kids who were great and expect them to come. Trent had, what, 6-7 months till the early singing period for the 2009 class when he got to LSU? That's no time to put together a real first class, especially once again with no in-state talent.

The fact eh did not use all possible scholarships was a personal choice

It was the correct choice. He had barely any time to put together a class for 2009 and there was no in-state talent. We had 4-5 more schollies to give but he wasn't going to give them out to Garrett Greens and Ben Voogds...He was looking at the future of the program and planning for it, unlike our former coach.

He had the same amount of time as Brady had to assemble the class I listed.

Presumably he had those relationships with some coaches and players before he came to LSU. What connection did Calipari have with Kentucky recruiting when he left Memphis? I am not comparing Kentucky to LSU generally, but Johnson has had a whole year longer than Calipari to establish those contacts

I am not saying it was the wrong choice, it may prove to be billiant if the scholarships result in far better players and the Tigers are again successful. But, let's not claim he had no time to get established because that was disproven in 1998.
