"The Saints have come through. I got some good seats," the mayor told WBOK radio.
"I paid for them," Nagin told host Gerod Stevens before correcting himself. "Well, the city paid for them because this is an official visit, a business trip."

On the Jindal thread, I do believe this was predicted long beforehand.

Impeachment is a formal process in which an elected official is accused of unlawful activity, and which may or may not lead to the removal of that official from office. It is the first of two stages. Impeachment does not necessarily result in removal from office; it is only a legal statement of charges, parallel to an indictment in criminal law. An official who is impeached faces a second legislative vote (whether by the same body or another), which determines conviction, or failure to convict, on the charges embodied by the impeachment. Most constitutions require a supermajority to convict. Although the subject of the charge is criminal action, it does not constitute a criminal trial; the only question under consideration is the removal of the individual from office, and the possibility of a subsequent vote preventing the removed official from ever again holding political office in the jurisdiction where he was removed.

so the supposed "personal" reason he didn't think he was going to go last week was that he's a cheap bastard that didn't want to pay his own way...shocker there!

well the city's team is in the Superbowl. I am diehard conservative, but I think the people that don't want nagin to go, are simply anti nagin.

I am anit Nagin, but I'm pretty sure other cities do this too, but I could be wrong. Plus I live in Metairie, so I don't give a rats arse about it

Isn't Jindal going to be there as well? Joseph Cao is watching it in the White House with Obama.

Yes. He paid with money from his campaign fund or whatnot. Big difference between using peoples' tax dollars that should benefit EVERYBODY and using money that was given to you by your supporters for you to benefit YOURSELF with.

exactly...there is a huge difference between privately donated campaign funding and city issued travel funds. i'm betting nagin was awaiting city council approval of a transfer of funds to provide for his attendance.

My god every freaking city's team mayor goes to the superbowl. I hate nagin as much as you all, but I am not going to let my hate of nagin dictate if he should head down to south florida. I just hope the city council has master billed everything and not let numbnuts run around southbeach with the city amex.

No... I don't think "city issued travel funds" were the issue here...

From 1/28/10

I suppose his airfare could have jumped by $900 since then...

I would LOVE to see photos of this turn up next week.

my bad...i didn't realize that tickets were his problem. i saw somebody a while back mention that he didn't know if he was going to go, but they didn't specify the reason why. regarding the "amex card" comments, that's all well and good until you have to pay the bill...municipal governments are run on a "line item" basis, meaning all bills are paid out of item specific accounts. so when the amex bill comes due, it would have to be paid out of a travel/meetings type of account. i worked in municipal government budget management/accounting for 12 years. i've seen the bullshite that is manipulated through city councils. it's the main reason i couldn't work there any longer. all in all though, i would have expected all this to be handled in order for nola's mayor to be in attendance.

IMO - His residence in Dallas (Frisco) disqualifies him from using the money from the city of New Orleans' coffers. He'll be up Jerry Jones' arse the second his term ends.

The mayor of a city with a team in the Super Bowl should be in attendance.

The particular city should pay for the mayor's atttendance.

I hate this particular situation. But, sadly, it is the situation at hand.
