Damn after reading that article it's hard to believe Louisiana was that divided before the SAINTS started winning. Seems like people in New Orleans don't like SAINTS fans in Baton Rouge, Western and Northern Louisiana all that much

I am from Bossier City.
(rite across the river from shreveport for all of you pickle smoochers)
First off, changing the New Orleans Saints name is an absolutely ignorant idea. I love it the way it is. Should never change...
Secondly, and i've battled this issue before,
all of you elitist "New Orleans Native" yadda yadda yadda,
that have posted in this thread with dumbass remarks such as:
" 99.99 % of true fans are from N.O"
"Weren't all the people north of Alexandria Cowboy fans until this year?"
"North Louisiana sucks, Mississippi is......"
just to name a few that stuck out in my mind...
Lemme tell you somethin... I know a ton of people just like me who live here in north louisiana that have grown up on saints and only saints football... Through thick and thin....
Have watched everygame within our power...
Fought tooth and nail, threatened lives, and cussed the hell out of the fox 33 affiliate for airing cowboys over saints..
shed tears, blood, and spilled beer over the few triumphs, and many trials the saints have endured in its 44 years.
I dont give a damn where you live, or where you are born. A true fan has nothing to do with proximity to the dome. A true die hard fan is forged through watching saints for as long as that individual can remember, and cheering their arse off....
I really dont feel like taking time to articulate a well spoken rebuttal to many of you ignorant asses.
but the last thing i will say is that
just because of *(here is a prime example)...posted from one NOLAZACH below:
"I made a point of making every home game that year, my dad had given me season tickets and after Katrina I was able to trade out for those games. ""
this individual was given season tickets, and is ABLE to go to the home games.. this doesnt make him anymore of a fan then someone from north la.. it just means he was born into an easy oppurtunity to be a fan....
infact one could argue that much repect is owed to those who are die hards from north LA.
We arent able to attend everyhome game, and have season tickets, be it job restrictions, monetary restrictions, or anyother thing..
We are bombarded with some cowboy fans, but we hate them more then yall do...
so in closing, dont act superior because of your geographic location... there are a ton of die hards that have been lifers...
that are not from New Orleans..

you are overusing the word ignorant. changing the name of the team isn't ignorant; it's retarded.
i agree with you to a certain extent, but for the most part, northern louisiana is filled with horrible people.
horrible, horrible people.

come on brah. Shreveport is a great town and would be the 2nd largest city in louisiana if wasn't for the state capital based in BR. North Louisiana is not filled with horrible people. I take somewhat an offense to that, b/c half my fam is from the Shreveport Area. these south louisiana/north louisiana efights get old after a while. Do I prefer south louisiana? sure I do, but don't knock an area b/c it is simply north of I-10.

umm...k...
being ignorant is a lack of knowledge...
i think that there is a lack of coherent reasoning behind changing the name of the saints...so yea... imho its ignorant....
so why do you think that north la is filled with horrible people?
which btw i prefer south la... love the food.. the people.. the fishin.. the huntin... and the football team..
but it pisses me off when people say bad things about north la ....just to say them... or that it is cool on saints talk... or whatever the hell they say them for

I'm from north la and live in BR now. And I want to thank all the frickin idiots from NO on here for being snobby little bitches. "your not from new Orleans so you can't like the saints"
go frick yourselves.
It's so funny reading these boards and the people of new Orleans acting like the rest of loiusiana is frickin Iraq or something. So what there are alot of cowboys fans in Shreveport. And who cares if nobody in BR wants to watch a hornets game. They aren't affiliated with the saints. It's fricking basketball. I hate basketball. And I hate the cowboys.
But I still think it should stay the New Orleans Saints. And not because you stuck up piece of shite coonasses deserve it but because it's tradition. Peace. And who dat. That's if I'm allowed to say dat

A name change is a name change. Louisiana Saints would anger all the die-hards, but the state's tourism would get a big boost because of it. On the other hand, Saints fever might not stick if the Saints revert back to the Aints.
Anyways, Mr. Benson would not change the name because the majority of the ticket sales take place in the Greater New Orleans area.

I love new Orleans. I would even live there for the right opportunity. But there is a big element in that town that thinks there is New Orleans and then there is the rest of louisiana. That attitude does in fact get old. Its not just a north louisiana vs south louisiana thing, to me its a bigger baton rouge vs new orleans thing.
Posted on 2/3/10 at 11:36 pm to WikiTiger
please for the love of all that is morally upright do not let the Saints become victims of their own bandwagoning

How am I being snobby. I'm not trying to keep people out of my "clubhouse". I'm just sick of people in NO thinking they own the team. You think Sean payton or brees gives a frick if you live there. No they just want your support.
Btw. Well put thedice. Well put

If I thought the team could derive a tangible benefit from doing so(making it easier for the team to compete in FA, and help keep the team in the future) I would be more in favor of it.
I just don't think changing the name would really increase the fan support that much from the BR/Laffy areas. North La. will always be tricky cause no one is driving that far to see the games on a weekly basis.
Also changing the name to the La. Saints doesn't help us with any fans outside of LA. on the gulf coast.
