Congo.

Crichton has had a number of his great books made into sub-par movies. To the contrary, No Country For Old Men is a book that was followed almost to the letter (especially with the dialogue) when adapted into a film.

The Sum of All Fears - decent novel by Clancy, but totally ruined by PC movie.
