For the Basketball Folks

I do not follow basketball that closely but I did feel we could go about 4-12 in SEC this year. Looks now like 0-16 or 1-15 is likely. I do think TJ can coach so I am hoping it is lack of talent. I am not ready to sound the "Houston we have a problem" horn. Based upon incoming talent what would you expect our record to be in SEC next year?

8-8 AT BEST...You're looking at a 3 to 4 year proposition for the rebuilding of the LSU program. I have never seen it this depleted of talent and athleticism. Trent has a plan. It will test the patience of fans. Good thing LSU is a football school and people can give a shite about basketball at this time. We got baseball as well. Trent has the luxury of very low expectations. He success last year proves he can coach. Let's see how he recruits over the long haul.

hopefully NIT, just look around the league everyone has talented freshman this year...we have none. without taz who is the leader on the floor, i'm afraid it could be ugly again. whoever heard of walk-ons being better than your signees. incoming freshman need a year to adjust to the speed of the game and college life, we are one year behind the curve.

The basketball program is in good hands with Trent. It will require patience on the part of the fans. Next year should at the very least be break even in SEC play. 4-5 years from now, we will be worrying about a college baskeball power stealing our coach, something we never had to worry about with the previous coach. The state is loaded in 2012, by that time the program will be on solid ground under Trent.

I love how some "fans" get all giddy about their own SPECULATION concerning future success while trashing ACTUAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS from the past.

This year is the beginning of the rebuild, starting from the ground up. I believe. Think we could be pretty good next year if Bo can improve. An 8-8 kind of SEC year.

I think 7-9 or 8-8 would be a reasonable expectation under ideal conditions. I think Turner and Stringer are being touted as immediate impact freshman and they will have to be.
White is a proven solid SEC player and I expect he and Storm will be a solid if not spectacular inside combo.
Derenbecker, I hear mixed messages on him. I hope he can at least prove to be more of a significantly positive factor than Ludwig and Dotson. They both would have gotten redshirts on even an average SEC team.
But depth will still be lacking so we can afford no injuries.
I am concerned that this year's team seems to be regressing rather than progressing. I see no signs of individual or collective improvement on this team and that does concern me.
But I like so much of what Trent brings character-wise I just hope than this is a tear it down to build it back up year and a solid foundation is being put in place.
That's all I can hang my hat on at this point.

I don't know, either. That's because nobody remembers winning seasons. However, they can't forget the Championships and Final Fours.

But wouldnt you agree that if we only had 3 winning SEC seasons out of 9 or how ever many seasons Brady was here...that would be pretty inconsistant and unacceptable? ...regardless of a Final Four and SEC champ.
And how does the president of the John Brady fan club not know how many winning SEC seasons he had? Or how many wins and losses period?

You're confused. I only seem like the President of everything LSU because I'm not a NEGATIGER
. In the old days, you would be right about winning and losing seasons. Now, however, the NBA rules college basketball. If you want to win titles, you have to go get the All-American types like Brady did. They will leave early, and you will have up and down seasons. This is because nobody but a hand full of teams can get All-American types every year. Then, when you have some significant injuries, you're sunk. Brady brought home the hardware. Go for the GOLD!!

That Final Four team was not such a team. It was a home grown team put together by Pierre and Temple that had played together for a long long time. Ya..Tyrus developed into a stud after redshirting...but otherwise it wasnt what you describe.

That's a worry I will gladly embrace!
There is some very good HS talent in this state that I hope Trent can bring to LSU and keep bring them here for a longgggg time.

Way tp pick out one year. I guess you have to give Brady all the credit for player selection and development since they weren't All-Americans. You can kid yourself all you want, but Brady brought in the big time recruits. He was an SEC Player of the Year recruiting machine!!
P.S. And, I don't even buy your premise about that year. Big Baby and Tas were big time recruits. The only people saying Tyrus was a wasted scholarship were the NEGATIGERS

Actually he was an SEC FRESHMAN Player of the year recruiting machine. What happened after their freshman years? Most didnt leave after their freshman year.
Posted on 1/31/10 at 2:16 pm to Cookieman
Some did leave early, or there would have been more. This is typical of NEGATIGERS
. Always ignoring the accomplishments and focusing on what did not happen, and making wild speculation about what will happen. PATHETIC!!
By the way, there were four POY under Brady in about 10 years. That's OUTSTANDING!!
POY recruiting machine!!

POY recruiting machine!!

We lost 5 seniors last season. Trent will have to have time to recruit and groom his young players. Just like the football team had to deal with inexperience a QB. Time will help things.
Posted on 1/31/10 at 2:26 pm to LSUBEATLES
anyone that knows college basketball knows that come tourney time GUARDS wins championships. Trent has done in 1 full recruiting season what Brady couldn't. Sign a quality POINT GUARD. The difference between LSU and North Carolina last year was Ty Lawson, and guess what position he plays? Again, in the next 4-5 years from now we will be worrying about a Big East or ACC school coming for Trent, something we NEVER had to worry about with Brady.
Posted on 1/31/10 at 2:31 pm to TeamLSU
If Trent did what Brady could not, why is that freshman point guard not even producing, much less being voted SEC Freshman of the Year? What are you
