I think Cox, an excellent actor, was a fine Lecter and maybe a little closer to how I pictured him when reading the books, although I think Hopkins' performance was more skill-packed.

But, Hopkins' "creepiness" factor seemed a little too melodramatic at times. I feel that Cox came off as more honest in a psychopathic way.

Whom did you like as Hannibal Lecter more? Cox or Hopkins? And why....

can't beat hopkins imo. he's a bit over the top, but it's just such an iconic role for him. i think Manhunter is a better overall film however than any of the ones hopkins was in.

I saw Manhunter before Silence of the Lambs couldn't understand all the love Lambs got. To me it seemed to be the same story.

If (Cox) Lecter had the screen time and dialouge in Manhunter that (Hopkins) Lecter had in Silence of the Lambs, both Cox and Hopkins careers would be drastically different today. Hopkins is a little too "over the top" in every role he does.

Wouldn't it be better to compare Manhunter to Red Dragon and not Lambs? Weren't they based off the same book?

Yeah...if that's what you wanted to do. I'm not sure why they are comparing Manuhunter to Silence of the Lambs.

I am asking which Lecter you liked better.

Definitely agree. I'm glad I'm not alone on this. I thought I would be, for the most part.

They are both good, but I saw Manhunter when it came out and immediately left the theater and bought the soundtrack.

I love me some Manhunter and I agree that Cox did a great job.

Manhunter >>>>>>>>>> Red Dragon even though Red Dragon was closer to the book which I also loved.

I think the score and soundtrack are what separate Manhunter from Red Dragon.

Plus Manhunter has Chris Elliot which makes it 20X better than Red Dragon.

Your way off. Hopkins actually only had a total of 16 minutes screen time in Silence of the Lambs. LINK

Every day of the week. And Red Dragon being compared to Manhunter is a joke. William Peterson's Will Graham was much better than Ed Norton's as well.

Menacing is the Hopkins difference. He seems 10x more measured and deliberating.

A fellow traveler . . .

I think Hopkins was great . . . but Cox was much more malevolent without phony charm.

Comments re Manhunter and Red Dragon . . .spot on . . .including reference to the book.

I, too , bought the Manhunter soundtrack.

Yeah, and my wife and I still crack up over Elliots big scene.
