I know everyone has read DD this morning and if you havent, he said that the negative message boards contributed to the decommit of Justin Hunter.

While that may not be completely true, it is understandable.
If i were a big time high school athlete and i had committed to a school such as LSU, I would keep tabs on the recruiting process and other info that you can usually obtain from TD.

But every FRICKIN day, I get on the rant only to see: "LES MILES", "IS CROWTON GONE", "OUR PROGRAM IS ON THE DECLINE"......

I mean even if the kid doesnt check these sites, im sure coach DOOLEY knows about em, "hey kid, u got the internet?.. i wanna show you something funny.. come to UT"

I wish all the fricking idiots that jumped on here one time in the last six months just to publish their own version of the "bash LSU thread", would just GTFO.

And im spent

it ain't the message boards. they can see our team play. do we have any stars on offense? we have potential stars, but no production. the other schools are producing names, because their coaches do something with them.

just a few years ago we had stars on our team.

now we have potential stars, such as RS, who don't even get to see the field.

Besides, and this is a much bigger point, these kids change their minds all the time. Esp. the out-of-staters. East Texas and West Mississippi kids seem to be more solid committments. it's not like we are seeing a huge class of decomitts.

you're a complete moron if you think negativity and the message boards don't have a LARGE impact on the perception of our program and the recruits perception of our program

And i completely understand that. i mean it is hard to keep a kid all the way across the country focused on your school when he has all the pressure on him from other programs

And i also agree that we arent playing our "potential stars" early and often enough. But the whole fanbase trash talking their own team has to send out negative vibes

Let me understand. Despite the ineptness of our football team the last two years, you verbally committed your life to LSU for the next 4 years. Congratulations. Great decision!

Then all of a sudden you read and/or hear something negative on the internet about you and/or LSU and you suddenly decide to switch your commitment to another school that has all sorts of problems?

I'd say enjoy your 4 years at that other school.

Honestly, what do you think the OSU, OU, AU, and other major programs message boards look like.

Regardless, the way the media portrays Miles and staff is a major turn off to recruits. It's not just the message boards.

And what do you think the other coaches are telling these kids?

They definitely have a greater impact than the idiots on this board.

you are giving way too much credit to these 17-18 year old kids. If those chicks going to high school games could convince the stud atheletes to go to Tennesseee, how much do you think it really takes to sway them?

My question to those that don't want to blame message board content is this. The recruits saw the coaching, the players, the whole season with it's flaws, and still committed. The changes in their minds can come from many places, but the attacks from the fan base only gives sour food for thought.

I realize some recruits may commit 4 years of his life for stupid reasons.

What I'm saying is we're better off without them.

really? we're better off without the 5 star guy who makes a 2.0 in the classroom? I'll take a little bit of the stupidity as long as he's not a complete thug i.e., Perilloux, Janzen Jackson for instance, otherwise give me talent, you're being very idealistic in your "better off without them statement, I'll take Justin Hunter thank your

really?

Yes. How bright can one person be to change his committment from one school to another based on what anonymous posters say on the internet?

I'm not saying that happened in this case, but that is the belief of Dandy Don and many on the board this morning. If that really is true, then yes, we are better off without someone capable of making an intelligent decision.

From a national championship season there is no where to go but down. The problem lies in constantly giving free publicity (ammunition) to our recruiting opponents.

If this is true, then why all of the great commits for 2011? I understand that it is over a year before signing day, but all schools have these issues with players that live a long ways away.

I am not talking about Florida, USC, etc. They will always recruit well. I am talking about other programs. Davis wanted to go to UT. He was in Texas. They offered and he took it. For Hunter, guy is from Virginia. He has decommited, but not eliminated LSU. Marsh is thinking again. He already committed to Cal and decommitted. No concidence that they are out of state recruits. It is a nature of the beast. Also factor in staff changes as well. Look at how many UTenn commits left. That happens.
