Im not saying it was a bad move...i actually think it was a pretty good on a emotional standpoint.

But im starting to wonder if one reason was so he could get a couple of paychecks to help him out with his financial situation. Thoughts?

Maybe someone thought of that as a plus for why they'd pick him up, but no way that had anything to do with the real reason. I don't really think we've seen the real reason yet.

I think they signed him to add blocking in the backfield

My brother thinks he'll see some playing time agains Minn if the right situation comes up. I think it would be great to see him come in on a goalline play.

To get him a ring. Beacuse he was with us for so long and the season after he leaves we are finally good. Because we are not Greenbay and we are loyal to our players who put in years of hard work

The official story is that Payton had contacted Deuce to be a cheerleader in an unofficial capacity, and when Rodney Leslie went down and opened an inactive roster spot up he decided to make Deuce officially part of the team. There could be more to it, but I think that's unlikely from what we've seen.

Nah, we had a thread on this the other day. The NFL gives the SB champ 150 rings that they can give to whoever they want, and if they want more than 150 they can buy them themselves.

Oh, well that shoots my theory down... did not know that.

you don't think they want him on the sidelines and on the roster so that he can say "i was on the 2010 SB team"?

to me it just seems like a very nice gesture out of loyalty and respect on behalf of the Saints franchise for Duece

I really think that's all that's going on here. Same reason Carney is the kicking consultant. Payton felt bad about how they parted ways and it's just a nice gesture to try and make up for it.

I think he will play short yardage downs in the Super Bowl and maybe this weekend. The Jackson news said he was practicing in full pads this week.

I agree with the OP, nice gesture, and financial compensation to help him out. Otherwise, they could have let him run on the field without putting him on the team, pretty sure the dude on the motorcycle who leads the team out isnt under contract.

As long as he does his part and gets Peyton to throw the game.

You guys are over thinking this big time. Payton contacted Deuce several weeks ago to be an honerary captain. Then a roster spot opened up when a PS Line backer Leslie went down, so Payton put him on the roster. Never had any intentions to put him the field. That is just silly. This was strictly just to be an emotional uplift.
