It is unfair to compare the "intelligence" or decision making ability of 3 seniors to a sophomore. And you dont know how good Garrett is till hes in the game under pressure. To use practice or highschool to judge how well he'll do vs UF, Bamma, UGA, AU, etc. is irresponsible.

I am not saying that Garrett is the answer, I am just saying that JJ is not the answer

Semantics. The point is you want to bench a guy who, judging by QB rating, will be one of the best returning starting QBs. So that you can have a RS freshman jump in and pull a J Lee. Lets be smart here people.

By now you know that that's asking too much...

But seriously, everybody is overthinking this whole QB thing because they've taken a set against JJ. I think they're so outraged with the way the offense performed, they just want to start over. Nearly every historical example that any one of us could come up with indicates that sticking with JJ, working on the line, the running game, and, yes, JJ's execution, is the smart thing to do.

They're ignoring that because someone started a rumor that Chris Garrett is the second coming of Matt Stafford, and now everybody who hates JJ conveniently believes it. They all also have a connection in the program that can attest to CG's ability to light up the SEC as a first year guy (happen's all the time, right).

Don't ask "the rant" to be smart. You're wasting your time.

Yeah a RS freshman who has never taken a snap in college football. Im sure he is brimming with confidence.

Guess you weren't around in 1986, huh?

L.S.U. had a REDSHIRT FRESHMAN freshman QB who had never taken a snap in college football that went out in his first game and led his team to a 35-17 win over 7th ranked Texas A + M. Went on to lead the Tigers to the 86 S.E.C. Championship, led the S.E.C. in passing efficiency, (175-288 for 2261 yards and 19 TD's) was the first team all-S.E.C. QB and S.E.C. Freshman of the Year..........

How many of JJ's percieved issues don't involve another aspect of the game ?
Coaching - play calls, clock mgt, etc ?
O Line play - you don't get sacked if the opposing D line is being blocked.

From I saw of JJ when he got protection, he did just fine.

that being said, I think the position should and will be open to competition in the spring but he has to be assumed as the returning starter at this point.

I understand that boards like this are specifically designed to serve as a forum for discussion, but let's not kid ourselves; JJ is going to start. They can open up the competition to placate some fans, but it'll be a waste of time. If it motivates JJ to work harder, I'm all for it. But he's our starter. Probably until he graduates, gets hurt, or develops a taste for cocaine and whores. We can focus on other areas of the game that need work.

I dont know at this point if i would agree that JJ isnt the answer, however IF he is, he's got a LONG LONG way to go.

his rating is missleading... how many times did he get sacked looking for that one reciever? not even going to metion his running ability or lack of.He was lost on the field most of the time. This could have been our offencive genuis at work or the lack of smarts of jj.It just seems the team plays like our coaching staff coaches.... just flat emotionless football

I'm beginning to think our coaches are limited by what they can get out of our players. If JJ cant get the job done, then the playcalling is limited. Look at how he runs the option for goodness sake.

Who do you think will beat us next season? or is 7-5 just an arbitrary number you just threw out there?

Giving a RS freshman the starting job with an SEC schedule is LUNACY! Obviously you dont understand that QBs dont just get into this league and become badass all of a sudden. Even the great Tim Tebow had to have a couple of years to develop before he started.

Really??????
I could have sworn he played his freshman year alternating with Leak and then started his sophmore year and won the Heisman.....

I've said it many times before,I'm fortunate to attend practices on a regular basis.Garrett is a very smart talented kid.Crowton loves the guy,he's a coaches kid, film junkie, strong arm with a quick release. If we struggle to move the ball early next year this kids gonna play.I'm looking forward to watching the reps each guy gets in spring.
